There are a number of sources here, including a mailing lists for newbies to Native American research: http://www.accessgenealogy.com/native/tribes/algonquian/index.htm Here's an Algonquin names research site: http://www.surnameweb.org/algonquian/surnames.htm And here is a resource specific to Putnam county Native Americans. I think, however, that you will need to try to identify which ancestor was Native American, by the means normal to genealogy research. That means sifting through old documents and records specific to your family. I have a Native American in my tree. She happened to have been well researched by other people. I understand that the connections were made through land records. Native Americans and their descendants were given land grants and those were noted in county and territorial court and land records. Good Luck! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Specifically: names, inter-marriages, and locations for those of us trying to trace possible Native American history in this area? My 92 year old Aunt "knows" of indian ancestry in her family, but will not discuss it. Apparantly it was quite an embarassment to the family when she was a young girl and she and my other aunts and uncles were teased for it. Past historian Mr. Muscarella also believed our family had Indian ancestry, but we are unable to find it. My grandmother, Eva Lynn (Robinson) Booth, lived on Route 311 on property her grandmother left her (the north side of the road between Longfellow Drive to the top of the hill to Longfellow Court). My uncle, Joseph Robinson lived on the corner of Longfellow Drive and Route 311 in a brick house which is no longer there. Several businesses are now on the property: Holly Real Estate, an old laundromat, a bar, and what was Bob's Garage and Zatolla's Garage. Where her house was, has been for sale several times since she died. The driveway up the hill is barely visible just east of Bob's Garage. Thank you in advance for any information you may have. I don't know about the 12 disciples. There is a "wind break" of trees all about the same age as the Jesus tree all up and down both sides of the road from the old farm that was once there. If it was record it would be in town records on births, marriage and deaths. You can also check church records for bapitsms. Since they were from Ireland chance is that they were Catholic or Lutheran. Check the Mormon Family History site at: www.familysearch.org for Cold Springs. This site will also give you the nearest Mormon Library to you. You should also check when Cold Springs became a town. Reason being that if it was not town in that time period, records maybe in one of the surrounding communities. Also check immigration records under Beatty name. There is an Irish Genealogy Society on the net but you have to do a google search for it. They will be very helpful for you. There is a Griffiths Valuation at list the possible areas where the Beatty family may have come from. I think this is online now too. Did you get a death record on your grandfather? That may state ! where in Ireland or at least what county is was from? Good Luck in your research and I hope something I stated will help you. Hi Deborah, Your ancestor Sarah Ashman's brother Redman married my 1st cousin 3xr. Her full name is Charlotte Hawks & she is the d/o Daniel Hawks & Phebe Higgs. I can help you with questions in regards to the Hawks line if you're interested but have very little on the Ashman line. I would love to add you to my tree. The only information I have on the Betts is for their child Ida. It is a 1908 marriage record for Ida to a William H. Louth. I have other Betts families. One is Riel/or Royal P. Betts who married into the Ferris family - and Joseph Betts who married Abigail Baxter.
I am working on my family history and am trying to find out information on the Ashman family that lived in Garrison, Putnam County, New York in the 1800's. I know the following: The family name was Ashman or Ashmond. I have seen it both ways. My great, great grandmother was Sarah Ashman born in New York about 1842. Her parents were Redman Ashman born about 1810 and Sarah born about 1814. She had at least 8 brothers and sisters: John 1834, Mary 1836, Redmond 1838, James 1840, Jane 1846, Emeline 1848, Abigal 1850 and Margaret 1857. Redmond married Charlotte and had two children Mary and Ella. James Ashmond was enlisted in the Company L 6th New York Heavy Artillery from Phillipstown in 1862 at age 19. He died June 28, 1865 and is buried in the Hampton Virginia National Cemetery. Sarah married William Betts on July 3, 1865 in the South Highland Methodist Church. They had four children: Walter 1867, Ida 1871, Charlotte 1877 and Seward 1878. Walter was living in Fishkill but moved to Garrison after they were married. I believe all the children were born in Garrison. If you have any information on this family, I would appreciate having it. Thank you for your help.

Kent is a township within Carmel. The Raymond Hill Cemetery is on the west side of RT. 52 north of Carmel, about 1/4 mile BEFORE you get to the intersection of SR 52 and CR 48. -----Original Message----- From: nyputnam-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nyputnam-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of nancy@netspeed.com.au Sent: Sunday, July 20, 2008 8:03 AM To: billforshay@yahoo.com; nyputnam@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NYPUTNAM] James D. & Etta Wyatt Hi Bill, as far as I know, Kent was one of the towna carved out of Fredericks.
