Author: GenealogistGirl Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.putnam/777.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have no info on Nathaniel, but have researched the Sherwood families in that area. I'm guessing the one Abigail Sherwood I have in my files, daughter of Joseph 1712 and Mary, may be too old to have married Hebbard. There is a possibility that Abigail was the unlisted daughter of David 1723 and Eunice Sherwood or a gdaughter of Joseph. David/Mary lost one young daughter named Abigail and I've had to patch together names of the younger children, because they were born near Putnam and there were no birth records. David and Joseph were brothers who probably were actually living in New Fairfield, CT. However, they seemed to both go to church and have relatives in Putnam cty. The migration paths of their descendants might be one that Nathaniel would have taken. Most of the Hebbards were from CT and completed their service in the Revolution there. These branches of Sherwoods, were likewise Revolutionaries. I would love any info you have on the Sherwoods, if you are willing to share. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ElizabethStuerke Surnames: Haight, Sherwood, Nelson, Wright Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.putnam/41.481.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I noticed your mention in your posting regarding the extensive research you have done on your Haight line. I am wondering if you and I share a common descent, and I'm hoping you can help me with my quest. I am descended from Joseph Haight of Philipstown, d. 30 July 1776, and his wife Hannah Wright (said to have died the same day, both of smallpox). Their daughter Mary (Polly) Haight married Justus Nelson, and my line of descent then continues down through their son Mephibosheth Nelson. Pretty much all Haight researchers show that Joseph Haight is a son of Daniel Haight of Yorktown (with the exception of Emily Warren Roebling, per her 1903 "Journal of the Rev. Silas Constant", where she states that Joseph is the son of another Joseph Haight/Hoyt, and does not show my man as a son of Daniel). I cannot find any primary documentation to prove that Daniel was the father of Joseph, although I often see mention of a deed from Daniel to Joseph wherein Joseph was given a large amount of land in what was then Dutchess County (now Putnam County) ca. 1750. I keep trying to find an actual copy of this deed but can never put my hands on it. Beyond that, there seems to be a common belief that the grandfather of "my" Joseph of Philipstown was John Hoyt, who died in Rye, New York, ca. 1726. I am really interested in firming up this connection, through more than secondary sources, so as to be able to state with some confidence that the line back from my Joseph extends to the immigrant Simon Hoyt, who died in September, 1657, in Stamford, Connecticut. I feel that Daniel is definitely my weak link. I would appreciate any information about Daniel being the father of my Joseph, and also anything about Daniel being the son of John Hoyt and wife Elizabeth of Rye. I have many undocumented statements regarding this but am seeking something that offers more substantiative proof. Thanks for any help you can give with this! Have you had time ti decide what GENS. or info. that I have on CHAPIN, or ROOD or WARNER would be of use to you? When I have a mailing-address, and know what you want,I can statr to collect. As I am having 8 people over 3 days at T-giving--I will be very busy:Then 2-3 days to recuperate. SMILE! I have NOT POSTED any of my work to ANYTHING ANCESTRY.com. Everything on F.T,M. before 2000 was posted for free use by contributors--for free use.. ANCESTRY incorporated: THEN, promptly announced that EVERYthing previously posted was -as of that date, ANCESTRY's proprietary-property. They 'stole' it by the legal means of taking it. They DID NOT consult donors.PERIOD. Years ago, I decided on two goals / parameters. 1-To distribute to my 2 sisters and to my own 4 children and 2-to send the appropriate sections to EACH county where a family has lived.[WELL, insofar as I had discovered.] One outgrowth of this during the research- process was that I became a teacher / leader in Research Methods for genealogy in a weekly class here in Thousand Oaks,California. We teachers were two and alternated weeks, about 30-40 participants every week. I was NOT getting my own research done, however,:So, I chose two very talented persons to take my job although I still occasionally take a class. Now there are 3 teachers to take-turns plus others do special-subject matter from time to time. Wonderful group of people and everyone helps another with ideas and suggestions.. I have NOT heard of another weekly class from any other researchers except,of course, in a college or school. Thomas Gilbert per http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bauerle/chapin/chapinan.txt There are (7) Worldconnect entries for Jotham and Anna: <http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi? op=Search&surname=chapin&given=jo tham&spouse=ann*> (copy/paste onto one line). However, there's nothing for Anna and Reuben (or Lotroop (Lothrop?) and Lucy), so whatever you have on them would be appreciated. One WC entry for Reuben http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:1585920&id=I549075552 says his parents were Ezra & Parthena (Warner); the latter is descended from Andrew Warner (another of my ancestors) per http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=PED&db=ayerthayer&id=I5216 so on that side we're also Warner/Boltwood cousins :^) Ron Bauerle ____________________________________________________________ Write, shoot, direct, edit your own movies.
