    3. Ms de Mare: In my search for Christians, some one sent me this link for maps of NY around 1867, including Putnam County. These maps show the locations of family farms/homes. http://www.westchesterarchives.com/CW/Thumbnails/1867Atlas_th.htm Looking at a "current" map (1988 edition New York state Atlas & Gazetteer; DeLorme Mapping Company) Christian Corners is on the map (p33) on the north end of Oscawana Lake and on the east side of the lake. My understanding when I was searching this location a few years back was that the name was going away because they (who ever "they" are) were going to build homes in that area. I live in San Diego area, so I have no idea what Christian Corners was changed to. I hope this helps you. 2. The Putnam County Courier is a newspaper that covered the area and it is online, see _http://www.localarchives.org/mahopac/_ (http://www.localarchives.org/mahopac/) . When I research a few articles about Christian Corners 10 articles come up, one mentions a petition for new roads...... Article date January 18, 1929 of the Putnam County Courier TWO ROADS ASKED IN PUTNAM VALLEY AS TOWN'S SHARE OF MILEAGE Com. Silleck Names Spruce Hill-Christian's Corners and Adams-Croft's Corners Routes A petition containing 212 signatures and urging the improvement of the road from Fahnestock's Corners on the Carmel-Cold Spring highway southerly by way of Christian's Corners to the foot of Spruce Hill at the southern entrance to Lake Oscawana, all in the town of Putnam Valley, was presented to the Putnam County Planning & Developing Commission at a meeting in Carmel last Saturday. The petition which was a voluminous document containing 75 sheets was accompanied by a blue print map of the highways in Putnam Valley upon which the route requested in the petition was designated. Julius Alsberg, of Putnam Valley, presented the petition and maps and spoke briefly in behalf of the proposed route stating that it would make accessible much of the elevated land for development; bring increased assessment and additional taxes to help relieve the present high taxes; provide a direct route to Cold Spring..... It goes on with a copy of the petition another article gives a similar description dated October 26, 1929 ......In view of the fact that a large number of property owners located on the East and South side of Lake Oscawana have petitioned your Honorable Body to favorably consider the diverting of the Route known (by the Putnam County Planning and Development Commission) as No. 5, to run from Tompkins Corners to Christian Corners and thence southerly along Oscawana Heights road to the foot of Spruce Hill, and, connecting there with the proposed town road, which has already been financed by the Town of Putnam Valley.............- I have no idea if this is related to Richard Christian but I thought I would pass it along. I have spent many happy hours reading these newspaper articles finding family and seeing how life was for them. Hope it has been of some help. I am trying to sort of the children by the wive's and the associated sources now. I will be glad to pass on any information I find or am given. I would love to see what information you have. In researching I have built some family lines based upon the gravestones in Dutchess and some in Putnam counties. I may have some information for you. He is my brick wall although I'm almost certain from circumstantial evidence that his parents were Daniel 1764-1852 and his first wife Eliza Wilson. Daniel was most definitely the son of Richard and he of John where the trail again goes cold. I'm so happy to see new faces researching this line. I have a large file on this family I will post after review (it's been a few years since I've last looked at it). It might be of interest. GEN-NYS-L Archives: Re: Rogers ?? Pat RandallRe: Rogers ?? Pat Randall Oh my goodness, Cousin Pat, I just reread this email I had gotten from you a while back and much to my surprise, we do connect. At the time, I didn't have much info on my Richard Rogers. But, having gone home to Dutchess County over Christmas, I visited Beacon (Matteawan) on the way back. I managed to stumble accross a Methodist Church in Beacon (St. Lukes?) where many of my relatives are buried. My Richard Rogers (b. July 10, 1800 d. Oct 18, 1866) is the same as yours. I have a picture of his headstone as having married Mary Henyan (b. Mar 14, 1809 d. Jan 8, 1887). That means that his dad is Daniel Rogers as you state. I have his headstone also. He is burried with his grandson? Daniel J. Rogers. His headstone states: Daniel Rogers, Died May 26, 1852, Aged 88 years. Which would have him being born in 1764 as you indicate. So you have now helped me as I was unsure of his connection to Richard. You also give me another link back to his parents: Richard Rogers and Elizabeth Warren and their parents: John Rogers If all this is truly true, you've helped me with quite a puzzle. My family lore claims that we are descended from Thomas Rogers of the Mayflower, but that wouldn't be true if your links are correct. Please let me know any more info you have on your Rogers line and how sure you are of the data. This is very good news. 3. I just wanted to share, for those of you who are on Facebook. A gentleman created a FB page for Carmel NY. It has created quite an impressive group of pictures that I think you would find of interest along with some interesting stories. Of course many of the stories are of recent times but some of the pictures go back a ways. "Extraordinary leaders have extraordinary character - With Extraordinary character they are not afraid." I have seen a family listing showing him with 4 wives, including both the Wilson and the Barrett. I have been looking for marriage records or death records to see if any or all are correct and match the one who would be the older(?) brother of Amos and 8 other siblings plus an older brother, William. But since the only documentation I have is the name Daniel and his wife Zilpha Barrett, the rest is seeing what reality really is. Do you have any source information on your Amos and his brother Daniel? Is it something I could get at? jeff Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am descended from Daniel Rogers and Zilpha Barrett through the daughter Sarah Rogers. I have a copy of a marriage application for Sarah indicating them as parents. But most of the Daniel Rogers families I have seen have the multiple wives and children. I am not sure which child belongs to which wife and if all of the wives are really his. Most pedigrees go from Daniel back through his father(?) Richard Rogers and Elizabeth Warren. I am trying to verify that connection. My direct e-mail address is nokinney@msn.com.
