    3. Silly Me. I forgot to mention that even though the petition says it is only for Dutchess County Residents you don't have to be. The Dutchess County Legislator who put up the petition is neither a historian nor a genealogist. He is a fantastic listener though and knows the issues. He stands up for us all. This is your history too - so feel free to sign even if you don't reside in Dutchess and we'll all forgive DC Legislator Joel Tyner this time. History belongs to all of us. Surely many would come to Dutchess to Research if Dutchess gave it's history more respect, was historically and genealogically friendly, and had a publicly accessible archives geared to research. Imagine that and they would even stay in our hotels, shop in our stores and eat in our restaurants when they research and write rather than only coming to visit the mansions - once you've seen those you've seen them - researchers keep coming back. In Dutchess County now - History and our Historical Records are the orphan of Tourism - whereas Tourism should be the Foster Child of History. Ginny ----- Original Message ----- From: Ginny B. 3. When I started this previous post I was only going to send it to the Westchester List and then decided to add Putnam. I want to add to my previous post that Putnam also has and excellent archives and history there receives a great deal of respect from County Government also - Apologies for inadvertently leaving that out of my last post. Ginny Thank You for Any Support Any of you can offer us here in Dutchess. Same will be great appreciated. ----- Original Message ----- From: Ginny B. I never asked for one before. Dennis and Mary Elizabeth Sweeney O'Grady are our great-grandparents, both from Ireland but from different places. The O'Grady's are from County Limerick and Sweeney's from County Sligo. I have only been able to go back one other generation , with Dennis's parents being John and Ellen Leahy O'Grady, and Catherine, (Dennis's first wife) and Mary's parents being John and Mary Durcan Sweeney. Your Grandmother was the youngest of all the children as I am sure you already know but she was a great source for me to find out so much about our family. Please contact me when you get a chance. My e-mail is IRED52@aol.com, my name is Ellenjane. Take care cousin (2nd cousins) :)) ) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. Re: [NYPUTNAM] MY FAMILY - "Robinson"
    2. Similar story - Our family is also supposed to be Indian, also unproven. My aunt told me she had a picture of our Indian g-g-g grandfather with braids and a feather in his hair or hat, but I never saw it and she has since passed away.? I am a descendant of Samuel Head 1800-1881 of Carmel and Zephaniah Dingee?(1787-1865) and Elizabeth Ballard Dingee of Carmel.? I was told we were "Mohawk" growing up but it is more likely Mohican/Mahican - Wappinger Indians.? I have researched for 20 years and haven't been able to "prove" any further lineage or link to Native Americans. Robinson(5/1890-9/1981) of Kent/Lake Carmel. She was married to Norman I. Booth. It seems we're related to just about all the original family's in Putnam/Southern Dutchess. Some are buried in Raymond Hill Cemetery in Carmel and some are buried in the Parker Farm Cemetery in Kent (now on private property). We are part Indian, according to my grandmother. She showed me a picture of the man in a dark suit, tall hat, and braids. My sister and I were young and we can't remember his name or how we're related and have had no luck in tracing this heritage. The last two town historians also said we had Indian blood, but couldn't verify the lineage. If you look at an antique map of the Kent NY from 1868 (you can find and view this on the Internet), you will see in the upper region all of your family's homesteads. (This area was dammed and is now known as Seven Hills Lake.) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
