Most of my help from NY has been via a WONDERFUL person, Leigh Eckmair (Library Historian), who has lent her talents and support over the years. Leigh finally found a document proving the family I suspected was that of my 3rd great grandfather was correct!!! My 3rd great grandfather was Jesse D Butts. He was born in Buttternuts, Otsego Co., in 1821-22 (have all sorts of data but no DOB). He married Lucinda Furbush on 11/5/1840 in Pittsfield. Suspected parents of Jesse were Elijah Butts (CT)& Rebecca Dunbar (MA). The Old Church Burying Grounds (aka Harmony Church in Morris)had a Butts family buried there consisting of Elijah, Rebecca along with two daughters, Rebecca & Julia Ann, who each died on their birthdays in 1824!!! I'd like to know more about them, if possible. Was able to learn about Jesse's sister, Lovisa Butts who was the second wife of Joshua Cary. They had a child but that line eventually died out I believe. Also was able to learn a little bit about Jess's sister, Hannah Butts who was the second wife of Samuel Upham. Recently learned of another sister, Eliza Butts who married Samuel Miller who recently became known through the will of her sister, Hannah. I have no idea where Eliza was buried but she is not in the Morris cemetery with her parents and siblings. After the death of Elijah, Jesse sold his land and moved his little family to IL where he remained for the balance of his life. He died in 1880 shortly after the 1880 census was taken in Cook Co. Jesse's wife was also a "local girl". I'm certain that Lucinda was the daughter of Sylinda or Cylinda Furbush who was shoooown in on of the census reports at age 78 as Linda Furbush . . . Have done a lot of research on the Furbush family in IA but now much to go on there in NY. My "interest" is in docummenting as much as possible about my ancestors. I'm the last living descendant that had verbal information passed on to them by my grandparents. Had always listened to the stories but never imagined it would ultimmately lead me into a 40 year search!!! Can't explain it, but I feel that I have a very close bond with these ancestors!!! My tree now includes over 11 thousand people related by blood or marriage!!! And I want to know all the stories possible. Just following the lineage is simply not good enough!! Wish I could saya that the living descendants I've managed to locate were more co-operative, but to date only one has been even slightly interested. Many have taken the data I've collected and then disappeared while others have inherited some sort of resentment towards "family" without reason . . . It's often difficult but I do keep on trying . . . Do you think you could help me with some of the NY ancestors? Blessings.
