    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Early in the October 22, 1956 issue of the New York Times, under headline EUGENE E. EARLY, NEWSMAN, DEAD. He had been publisher of the Queens Evening News. He suffered a "third" stroke on the preceding Wednesday and "was found the next day lying helpless on the floor of his apartment. He had been born in Brooklyn on July 20, 1889, and was for many years a reporter. He had been Deputy Controller under Mayor La Guardia. He had suffered a first "paralytic"stroke in 1949. I was dubious as to whether this was the right Early, since it mentions only a sister, Sister Augustine Maria of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Brooklyn, and says nothing about Bonner. The New York Times does not have any items mentioning "Eugene Edward Early." The New York State Historical Association informs me it has no recent records from Lakewood Cemetery. At my request it checked its files of the weekly Cooperstown Freeman's Journal but finds no obituary for Mary Graham Bonner in 1974. The NY Times obituary for Mary Graham Bonner (Feb. 13, 1974), says, as you evidently know, that she died at age 83 in New York City and "no immediate survivors." If you would like to discuss this further, please send me your direct e-mail address.
