Of possible interest is an obituary that appeared in the January 31, 1906 issue of the Brookfield Courier (in Madison Counrym just across the county border from Northeast Otsego County; Otsego, Madison, Oneida,and Chenango counties come very close to each other]. I quote excerpts: Mrs Laura Story Austin died at the home of her nephew, Morton E. Burdick, in this village on January 23....Her early life was spent in this locality, but for twenty years or more she had resided with one of her sons in Michigan.... Mrs. Austin was born in the Village of Bridgewater [Oneida County] in 1823, and was a member of one of the early families of that township..... Mrs. Austin is survived by her two sons, Chas. Austin of Grinnell, N.D., and George Austin of Wildwood, Mich. She leaves two sisters, Mrs. Luna Wilcox of Leonardsville [village in Town of Brookfield] and Mrs. Sarah Coggeswell of Washington Mills.... the interment being made in the cemetery at Unadilla Forks [village in Town of Plainfield, Otsego County].
