Dear Hugh, I can't tell you how much I appreciate the reply you put on the internet. You are very kind to take the time to look up the Ellis family. They sure have been hard for me to find. I have a typed out page that I got from Onondaga County in New York in 2003. It has Samuel and all of his children on it. The lady that took it there must have thought that they came from Onondaga county, because it says that Samuel passed away at the home of his son {don't know which one}in Dewitt, in Onondaga county, New York. It {the Page} was reportedly taken from the family Bible. I think the Elonzo Ellis on that sheet is my great-great-grandfather. He left New York at some point and moved to Michigan. He married a Phebe {don't know her last name and I don't know when or where they got married}. I have not been able to find Elonzo or Phebe on any census records for New York only on the 1850 census records of Michigan. Later some time between 1850 and 1870 they moved on to Iowa. That is where I am from, but no longer live there. I would like to add that I have find you New York folks to be very helpful and very friendly.
