    3. Hi Listers, I am looking for a Samuel Ellis that lived in Otsego in 1815 and before I believe. His son Stephen R. H. Ellis was reportedly born in Otsego County New York in 1815 according to Bible records I obtained while in New York state in 2003. I have pictures of other Ellis' gravestone I took while in New York state this year and I am trying to tie those folks to my Ellis'. Any help would be very helpful. Thank You very much. Marilyn {Ellis} Sage

    3. Some more material (possibly familiar) on the Ellis line is included below. My supposition (and it is only that) is that Stephen Ellis of Yates county is the son of Samuel Ellis of New Lisbon, Otsego County. And that Samuel Ellis of New Lisbon is the son of Gideon Ellis, the long-lived Ellis of Aurelius, Cayuga County. My guess would be that in his old age Gideon lived next door to his son Samuel in New Lisbon in 1820, but then moved back to Aurelius, and ended his life with son Harvey. His widow (2nd wife, Esther) seems to have stayed in Aurelius, and the young Samuel Cole living with her might be a descendant (at least one Ellis married a Cole). All supposition, but might suggest some further leads. I'm inclined to believe the Barnstable version, which has more adherents and details. For what it's worth, Barnstable seems to be equally full of Ellis's and Perry's.
