You need to follow the development of Township formation in this area. The Town of Palatine, Montgomery County, was created in 1773, and covered a large area. In 1808 the Town of Oppenheim was formed. In 1838 Fulton County was created; most of Oppenheim was in the new county, but a portion was kept in Montgomery County and called the Town of St. Johnsville. So you find people recorded as living in Palatine, then Oppenheim, and finally St. Johnsville, who may never in fact have moved an inch! Most of the Jennings seem to be in St. Johnsville, but in earlier censuses they might be recorded in Oppenheim or Palatine. Maryland is a Town in Otsego County (its principal village is Schenevus). 1840 US Census, New York, Fulton County, Town of Oppenheim, p. 282 Peter Jennings 120001 011001 This suggests a couple with five children But I don't find him later.
