How does it work concerning your own relatives? I believe that you can post this information on the web, but am not positive about this. -------Original Message------- From: NYOTSEGO-L@rootsweb.com Date: 08/22/04 16:07:48 To: NYOTSEGO-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NYOTSEGO] Hartwick Cem The Hillington Cemetery Association in Morris is an active, incorporated, private cemetery. They maintain their own records which are private. It is necessary to contact and officer if the Cemetery Association to obtain information concerning burials in that cemetery. Joyce Foote, Historian for the Town of Morris, is happy to answer questions about burials in Hillington cemetery. We presume the newer Hartwick cemetery is still active and operated by an incorporated cemetery association. Leigh Leigh C. They are big cemeteries, however. ==== NYOTSEGO Mailing List ==== To unsubscribe from this list in list mode send an email with the word, unsubscribe,in the subject field & body of the message to the following address: NYOtsego-l-request@rootsweb.com ============================== Gain access to over two billion names including the new Immigration Collection with an Ancestry.com free trial. René- The presumption is, based on Confidentiality requirements, that a safe rule to follow is NOT to post any information concerning anyone who has been dead at less than 70 years. Family researchers may post a message that they will share their information concerning members of their family with other members of their family but need to be con- tacted off line. Remember, there are a lot of SCAM artists out there who are stealing identities based upon information that is readily available through public sources. They also watch all kinds of Chat Rooms and message lists and find Genealogy Lists a great source of "useful" information. While it is essential to share our information with legitimate researchers, it is not necessary to provide that same info to people who are going to use it for other, illegal, purposes. Good info, nicely said! Thanks, Jerry Dalton, Dallas
Hi Leigh, I guess I should have clarified myself. I did mean those deceased for a very long time. I've found direct ancestors in older sections of active cemeteries which I'm sure is invaluable to other relatives, and have wondered the legality of putting this info online. You are soooooo right about identity theft. It is a huge problem right now due to the internet. Thanks for the reminder, so many people of us are very trusting, that we don't often think of the evil that comes from something good.
