Judy, Otsego County does not border Canada -- but is in central New York State. Moses Bennes (so indexed, but probably Bennet) in the Town of Maryland in the 1820 Census is listed as being over 45. He appears to have two sons, aged 16-25, in his household, but of course no names are listed. A Moses Bennett (likely a son) seemes to have remained in the Town of Maryland -- this is the 1850 Census entry for him, which should establish whether or not he is your great grandfather. -- but he was born in 1797, not 1826. 1850 US Census, New York, Otsego County, Town of Maryland, p. 152, 272-281 Moses Bennett, white, male, age 53.
