I am still *stuck* at finding the parents and siblings of William James Winney, b. 1817, Cherry Valley, Otsego County, NY. I have found several addresses for churches at that time--most of them having records elsewhere because the church has passed into oblivion. I figured that finding his baptismal record would give me a real leg up. I just still can't find anything so far. In later life, W.J. Winney was a strict, teetotaling Methodist; I don't know what his parents were, religion-wise. And W.J. Winney *seemed* to come alone to Grant County, Wisconsin when he was 22 years old. At least his marriage record has him in Wisconsin and he was a constable in Grant County and he is buried in Grant Co., Wisconsin. His obituary doesn't say anything about his life in New York. There are several adult male Winney's living in Cherry Valley when William was born but there are also neighborhood areas where there are "Winney's" too. How do I separate them to figure out which is my family? Are there any sources besides Census Records that would tell me more information about the Winney's in this area? Many thanks.
