Re The Winney family of Fly Creek, 1800's I am seeking the Winney (sometimes spelled Winne) family of Fly Creek and the 10 mile surrounding area, NY. I am particularly seeking William James Winney (1821 Otsego Co - 1881 WI); he left NY for WI ca 1842. There is a possibility that he married and had children in the midwest, then skipped out on his wife; then had a second wife in Grant Co., WI; that second wife, who he married in 1845, would have been my GGGGrandmother, Anna Eliza (Blessing) Winney (1826VA - 1909WI). W.J. Winney was heavily in debt when he died in 1881, causing some of us in the family to wonder if he committed suicide or drank himself to death. He was a member of various teetotaling societies in Grant Co., WI but there is at least one family story about W.J. Winney being beat up by his wife when he came home drunk one time, presumably early in his marriage. He seemed to have at least tried to straighten up as he spent the 1850's working as a constable in Grant Co., WI. Thanks for any help. Kathleen LPurch6636@aol.com
