Can one find any apprentice records for Cooperstown, circa 1850-75? In the 1875 census, my 16-yr old grandfather, Edwin Pier Chapman was listed as a jeweler's apprentice. In 1880, he was a jeweler in Oneonta. TIA Jean Chapman Snow Sherman Oaks, CA
I would also be interested in learning the whereabouts of apprentice records for Otsego County...my great-grandfather's obituary says that he was a carpenter's apprentice at age 11 (which would have been about 1863). As a young child he lived in Portlandville, but was married and working as a carpenter in Oneonta on the 1875 census. Not sure which place he did his apprenticeship. (Jean, if we learn where they are, I'd be happy to look up your grandfather, too.)
