Recently, a member of this list complained to Yahoo geocities about my genealogy webpages. Because of her complaints Yahoo froze me out of my web pages. Because of this, I have LOST all my family genealogy, ALL my Ancestry back to 1630 RI. & Peter Wells. I have LOST my mother's Ancestry. It took my 30 yrs. to trace her ancestry since she was hospitalized after my birth, from a post-partum nervous breakdown & could never tell us anything about her past. ALL my ancestry is LOST because I took it ALL off my aging computer, put it on Yahoo geocities until I could afford a printer & I would then print it all out. It's ALL gone. 30 yrs. of digging, 100's of miles of travel to find courthouse records, cemetery records, church records, etc. ALL gone. Those of you who have done the same as me, all the time, digging, hopelessness & triumphant ecstasy, all the questions & exaspirations, all the joy, YOU know how I'm feeling right now because of this person & her misinterpretation of my files. To this unscrupulous person I'd like to say "Thanks. You've managed to destroy 30 yrs. of work in 1 day. I hope you're proud of your pontification & ability to play God with someone's webpages." I truly hope no one ever does to you what you've caused to be done to me. My genealogy is my only hobby. I'm homebound. I've been fighting leukemia for 2 yrs. & my webpages were for my family after I'm gone from this Earth. I've worked on my webpages between chemo treatments, between vomiting spells, between watching my hair fall out in clumps. My webpages have been my only solace from this disease. Thank you. Now, the Moderator of this list may feel free to cancel my membership of this list because I've expressed the pain in my heart. To the other people on this list, I pray she doesn't put her nose into your webpages & do this dirty deed to you. Happy Holidays, Rosemarie
Rosemarie, We all feel for you and wish there were some way to recover your data. However, without being able to recover this information for you, let us use your misfortune to warn others that the only way you can be certain to have your data is to keep a copy, better two copies, in two different locations so that even a fire destroying one will not cause the pain we know Rosemarie is feeling. Even if you cannot afford a CD Burner, likely you can find a friend who will burn a copy or two for you. Failing that, you should be able to get a commercial business to do so for a small charge. Consider it your insurance policy to avoid the misery that Rosemarie is suffering. And finally, don't feel smug that you have it all in your computer. Your hard drive, like all others, IS GOING TO FAIL. The question is not IF but WHEN. So beware, do NOT trust even your computer. From time to time transfer your data to an external medium, a Zip disk, a CD, a DVD or other external storage medium. Again, save it in two different physical locations to secure the data in the event your primary storage area is gutted by fire. Rosemarie, I regret that we did not get this message to you in time. Can you get Yahoo to recover your information or did they physically delete it? If you have not asked, try it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
