Late Spring, Summer and early Fall are the times we get out visiting cemeteries. If you are visiting a small rural cemetery, take along a pad and pencil and read the stones, since you are already there. It would help many others unable to get to Otsego County find their family info from the stones. Then send the reading to Jan Cortez to post to the Otsego County Website. Oh, and by the way, if you run across a stone reading for "Elinora/Elnore/Eleanor or any such first name and last name Preston" pretty please let me know as I still haven't located a stone for her in either Otsego or Delaware County. I know she died in the vicinity of Franklin-Oneonta in 1836, but Where, oh Where was my ggg grandma buried??????? Annette Campbell
Hello All! I live in Unadilla, NY - the bottom of Otsego County. There are some good resources for cemeteries around this vicinity (we're down the road from Franklin and about 17 miles from Oneonta). There is a book called "At Rest in Unadilla - Otsego County, New York" by Shirley Goerlich that has all (and I mean ALL) of the cemeteries in Unadilla and the names on all of the stones (as well other pertinent info). There is also a map of Otsego County cemeteries that is available at the Otsego County Planning Office in Cooperstown, NY (Phone: 607-547-4225 FAX: 607-547-6492). The cost is a dollar. There are other resources that I don't have at my finger tips, but we are more than willing to help if we can! Laurene Reichardt
Laurene, I recently saw the book "At Rest in Unadilla" but did not have time to make copies of it. Does it mention records for the particular cemeteries? For instance, St. Matthew's where I found listed a baby who died in 1813? This is the only proof that I have found so far for the family in Otsego. Any advice?
