I am still trying to find the baptismal record for my ancestor William James Winney, b. 11 Jun 1817, in Cherry Valley, Otsego Co., NY. I believe that there is only one church from the time of his birth that is left in Cherry Valley; I don't know the religion though I am fairly certain that it is not Catholic. It might be Dutch Reform or Church of England. Does anyone have an address, email or snailmail, for the next higher heirarchy for either church? William James's mother might have been Native American. What appears to be "odd" is that William James Winney left New York when he was in his early twenties; his immediate family doesn't show up in his next destination: Grant Co., Wisconsin, so we have wondered if his father might have died and left him the money to not only travel, but quickly buy land in Wisconsin at this young age-? Anyway, does anyone have a resource for how we can get William James Winney's baptismal record? (Especially if the church is defunct?) Many thanks. Kathleen LPurch6636@aol.com
