Hello Marc, ALLEN is one of my mysteries! My ancestor, Joseph HARTSHORN, was married in Otsego Co., probably in Exeter Twns. where he lived, in about 1800. I have been told that his wife Gemima/Jemima was an ALLEN but haven't been able to find a marriage record or any document that mentions her maiden name. The only clue I have to the truth of this surname is that this couple had several grandchildren whose middle names were Allen. Do you have a Jemima ALLEN in your data that could be her? In analyzing census records, she seems to have been born abt 1775, perhaps in VT. Joseph was born in 1765, NH. He came with his parents to Otsego Co. before 1800. He was a blacksmith in Exeter.
