    1. Re: [NYOTSEGO] Cemeteries
    2. Hi Annette It is not always possible if the person who did the original survey and listing of the Cemetery does not give you permission to put their work online. Feelings regarding this can differ depending on who did the work. I have also found that many small historical societies feel that it limits people coming in person to use their archives, or by requesting information from them for a small fee and they quite often operate on donations received for the use of their archives. Another source of income for a small archive could be a booklet (of Cemetery Listings, Marriages, Births and etc.) that was printed by the Society and the proceeds for its sale going to the archives for operating funds. None of this would be a source of income if all information was online and perhaps some of the smaller archives would not be able to continue staying open. Regards Pat R

Our local historical society not only has surveyed, computerized, printed and put on line as much info as we can get to. This is a service we are providing which is well worth it. I have done one portion of Randolph Center, with the second done and printed but not on line yet. What a feeling of satisfaction I get when a person can ID their people as to what row and number and perhaps ask if one might be available to take pix. We distribute hard copies to the town clerk, funeral home, library and others. I know the TC has referred to this reference when asked for info. the hardest part I think is finding decent weather to get out there to get the info off the stones. Winter too much snow. Summers seems have become too hot, at least for us Vermonters. For an example of what it looks like "visit" Randolph Center Vermont Cem. http://www.usgennet.org/usa/vt/county/orange/randolph/cems/rand/index.htm <Harriet M.Chase>
