I just realized that my board post did not have my name but only my "user name" -- It was me, Sue, who posted this. I hope it will help to get people to use the list. I usually don't respond to posts on the boards either, Sandy. It takes too much extra time that I don't usually have. Sue Susan M. I don't use the boards...only the mailing list (which no one ever seems to use anymore). I can't reply to this message on the board without becoming a member which I do not wish to do. Hopefully someone can get this message to whoever posted the message below. If you need a lookup in Oneonta Plains Cemetery please contact me. [email protected] or through the MAILING LIST. Zada is buried there. There are Hawkins and Lockwood burials there also. There are also Hawkins and Lockwoods buried in Glenwood cemetery and I have transcribed the records and read all the stones. Just so you will know, for the future... Facts (such as dates from tombstones) cannot be copyrighted. However, the format in which they are presented may be copyrighted or the comments of the presenter may be copyrighted. Therefore, it is always best to use a totally different format when copying facts -- and to leave out any commentary in a previous publication. Hi Pat, I descend from Roger Williams too.....apparently through a Paine family in the Otsego/Madison County area. Hi Pat. Thanks for you input and suggestions. Town of Glocester RI appears most promising because there were 10 from that town serving in the Rev War. That's a very high number for just one town. I went there and spoke to the then-historian Edna Kent, but we weren't able to trace my John F of Hartwick NY (born 1811) back to that area. I don't give up easily, but at my age I'm running out of time. Good luck in your own research. Marty Irons Goshen NY
Hi Marty I have come across the IRONS Surname many times in my many years of research in NE and have found that most appear in the Providence RI area.. Actually they were there when the section where they appear to have lived became Glocester RI around 1781. In the 1774 Records for the Glocester area it shows the following IRONS: Glocester originally was a part of Providence where my Roger Williams, John Smith and John Greene Settled. Thomas Samuel Jr Jeremiah Jr Samuel Stephen Resolved William Jonathan In Gertrude Barbers Records Pages 1 and 85 one can also find that Jeremiah Irons was in the Bowers Patent (Glocester) on 6th June 1796. One Levi Irons was deceased and buried on 24th April 1837 age 32 years. In another of her Records published it list IRONS living in the Hartwick Area when they died. Ruth on the 5th May 1842 55 years of age and Reuben 80 years of age. Many settlers in Otsego County did come from the RI area and it might be worth your time to review the Land (including Patents), Probate, Surrogate Records along with Birth, Marriage and Death Records. I do frequently come across the Surname.
