Author: PaulFrost15 Surnames: Ivins, Hitchcock, Mallery Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.otsego/4830/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello: I found some further details on the above. A transcription of burials at Evergreen Cemetery, Otego, shows a Josephine Evans 1853-1924. This person was buried near Albert E. Mallery, Melissa Briggs Mallery, N.E. Hitchcock and Louisa Hitchcock Mallery. I believe Josephine was actually Ivins (or Ivens) not Evans and that she may have been related to Louisa Hitchcock (Josephine's mother was named Caroline Hitchcock). Would anyone have information on when in 1924 Josephine died? I'm hoping an obituary might have further details on her. I also found a reference to Josephine S. Ivins as a member of a church in Unadilla in 1914 (M.E. Church, First Presbyterian, St Matthews). Since I haven't seen the actual source (only a reference to it) I don't know which church she may have been a member of. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: PaulFrost15 Surnames: Ivins, Hitchcock, Mallory Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.otsego/4827/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello: I am looking for information on a family whose members may have lived around Unadilla in the period ca 1840-1930. My gg-grandfather, John Ivins (surname is sometimes shown as Ivens or Ivans) was born ca 1822-1824 in New Jersey. His first wife, Caroline, was supposed to have been born in New York ca 1837. One record I have found says her name was Hitchcock. John Ivins appears in 1850, single, in New Jersey. In 1860, he and Caroline appear, married, in Bloomington, Illinois. John Ivins worked for the railroad. Caroline died in Bloomington in 1861 and, in 1863, John Ivins married my gg-grandmother, Alice Clark Tutt. I am trying to find out information about John and Caroline Ivins during the period ca 1850-1860 as well as information on one of their children, Sarrah Josephine Ivins, who apparently was born in New York state and may have moved to Unadilla ca 1880-1920. A family bible record shows Sarrah Josephine Ivins was born 3 December 1853. I have followed a Josephine Ivins (sometimes shown as Josephine S. Ivins) in the 1880, 1900, 1910 & 1920 censuses. She was single and listed as a cousin, living in the household of Albert E. Mallery (Mallory) and Melissa A. Mallery (Mallory). In the 1900 census, Josephine's birth information is listed as Dec 1855, place New York. I do not find her after 1920 - did she die in Otsego County ca 1920-1930? Would anyone have any information on this Josephine Ivins? Also, since there seems to be a connection to Otsego County, I am wondering if possibly John Ivins and Caroline (Hitchcock?) may have married in Otsego County ca 1850-1853. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks Paul Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: JTFAASEN1 Surnames: Howe, Mills, Chase, Nichols Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.otsego/4826/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Seeking information on Edward Mills of Westford, Otsego, NY. via the 1850 and 1860 census, he was born in Vermont or Massachusetts about 1777 and died in Westford on Aug. 6, 1862 and is buried in Badeau Hill Cemetery, Westford, Otsego, NY (Find A Grave Memorial# 52436527). His wife was Persis, believed to be Persis Chase b 3 Mar 1783 and died 1865, daughter of Dean and Lucretia (Bigelow) Chase. I believe in all probability that Edward Mills would be the son of "the Widow" Mills listed in the 1790 census in Brattleboro, VT. And thus most likely the brother-in-law of Moses Howe, the son of Captain Artemus Howe of Bolton, MA, Brattleboro, VT, and late of Westford, NY. Edward, if true would be the brother of Anna (Mills) Howe, wife of Moses Howe, who's heritage is unknown. What leads me to this conclusion is that Edward Mills shows up in Westford about the same time as the Howe family shows up there from Brattleboro, marries a woman named Persis which in turn Moses Howe names a daughter Persis (Persis (Howe)Nichols the wife of Rev. Browning Nichols), and Edward Mills is buried in the same cemetery as Moses' brother Artemus Howe Jr. Any information would be helpful, thank you, James Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
