I come from a difficult to trace family. I have a Lyman Beebe born abt 1825 to parents both from Vermont. He may or may not be born in Vermont as well. the census goes back and forth on his state of birth listing both NY & VT. I dont have parents names. He spent most of his time in Stark/Starkville NY and later Springfield Center, Otsego County, NY. I first found him in NY in 1850 in Canajoharie, Montgomery, New York. He was a poultry farmer most of his adult life. The hard part is all through his life time the darn counties & townships were changing time & time again. I have him as married to a Elizabeth (Betsey)(unknown surname)born 1832 in NY state. They had the following Beebe children. Lucinda 1854 Lemuel 1857- 1932 Elizabeth 1858 Oliver 1816-1944 Lyman J 1862- 1899 Janette 1864 Amelia L 1870 Victor 1871 Dorr 1875 any info would be wonderful! The cemetery is not under Spencer; however it is called the Spencer Cemetery now. It has many more than 19 buried. It is on River Road, between Rockdale and Rogers Hollow road. If you look at an old 1868 map "Atlas of Otsego Co NY" you will see lot 96 "settled by Jonathan Spencer 1786. Across the road is Chestnut Grove (now Curtis) Family cemetery. This is not the one I am looking for. We have been there and there are two of them (I am attaching the link for the map http://theusgenweb.org/ny/otsego/maps/unadillt.jpg ). As mentioned, the DAR notes this cemetery as the Rockdale (Morgan). But now it is called the Spencer Cemetery. What I am looking for is to see if this has ever been incorporated or part of an association. Thanks for your help. Our family is/was predominately from the Otsego County, NY area. However, over many years, we have been unable to go back before Isaac Lent (1785-1834). There is some possibility that he was in Madison County prior to arriving in Otsego County between 1800 and 1810. Isaac was married to Elizabeth Youngs, daughter of Joseph Youngs and Elizabeth Peck. Both the Youngs' and Pecks were in the Amsterdam, NY area starting around 1780, and prior to that, the Fairfield County, CT area. Joseph Youngs and family also ended up in Otsego County. I am of the opinion that Isaac's ancestry probably followed a similar path to Otsego County, though I have nothing solid to go on. I have also found no connection to the NYC Lents and their ancestors coming directly from Holland. It appears more likely at this time that our branch came to NY from England via New England. If you can connect to THIS Isaac (there are plenty of NYC Isaacs) then there would be a correlation. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Early in the October 22, 1956 issue of the New York Times, under headline EUGENE E. EARLY, NEWSMAN, DEAD. He had been publisher of the Queens Evening News. He suffered a "third" stroke on the preceding Wednesday and "was found the next day lying helpless on the floor of his apartment. He had been born in Brooklyn on July 20, 1889, and was for many years a reporter. He had been Deputy Controller under Mayor La Guardia. He had suffered a first "paralytic"stroke in 1949. I was dubious as to whether this was the right Early, since it mentions only a sister, Sister Augustine Maria of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Brooklyn, and says nothing about Bonner. The New York Times does not have any items mentioning "Eugene Edward Early." The New York State Historical Association informs me it has no recent records from Lakewood Cemetery. At my request it checked its files of the weekly Cooperstown Freeman's Journal but finds no obituary for Mary Graham Bonner in 1974. The NY Times obituary for Mary Graham Bonner (Feb. 13, 1974), says, as you evidently know, that she died at age 83 in New York City and "no immediate survivors."
