I am researching the Siver family of Milford, Otsego Co. My 4th great grandparents were Martin and Sally Siver. Martin was born abt 1805 in Otsego Co. I believe that his father may have been Adam Siver (b. 1860-1870). I have seen various fathers for Martin and am trying to sort through all of the misinformation and prove his parents. Does anyone have any information on the children of Adam Siver. In 1840, Adam, Martin and George Siver were all enumerated close together in the census. In 1850, Martin and Sally were living in Bainbridge, Chenango Co., NY with, Adam (probably his son) and Almira Siver. In 1860, Sally is living with Adam and Almira in Laurens, Otsego Co., Adam (the younger) died in 1902 and is buried in the Laurens Village Cemetery. Is there a will for either of the Adams? Martin and Sally are both buried in Bidwell Cemetery in Parish, Oswego Co., NY. Any info on any of these people would be greatly appreciated! Cindy

That Simeon's father appears to be the older Jeremiah Brant in the same household, and all were born in NY. Since census is almost all that we have access to concerning the records of New York and Pennsylvania, I began the search there. There are not many Brants in the earliest censuses of New York, and it makes it a little easier to attempt to trace a person by his age, as a range, hopefully remaininng consistent through the decades. I start with the younger Simeon's and Jeremiah's stated ages in the 1850 census. We also have the added benefit of a family story handed down through the generations that the Simeon Brant in 1850 Crawford Co., PA (b. NY) was related to the Mohawk of fame, Joseph Brant. I feel the censuses show that the younger Simeon was the son of Jeremiah Brant, who is first seen in Onandaga Co., NY, and that Jeremiah was the son of the Simeon you are asking about in Otsego Co., bordering Onandaga Co.. It appears that your elder Simeon is first seen in the 1790 census of Conajoharie, Montgomery Co., NY, which was a Mohawk town, built for the Mohawk. It was Joseph Brant's residence before he moved to Canada. Simeon does not appear to be son of Joseph Brant, and we cannot find his father, who we feel was likely of the Mohawk Brant family. There were at least two Brant lines among the Mohawks in the area, Brant being their Christian names as members of the Anglican Church. I have the census work-up to show, but I will wait until we establish contact to present that, since it is very lengthy. I see that you have a wife's name for the elder Simeon, but there are no marriage records for us to find. We also wonder how you have a name for the father of your Otsego Co., NY Simeon Brant? From what record? Would like to swap information. Any help appreciated. [email protected] Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. There's been a continued series written by Roger Joslyn, FASG, about "the 3 Barber sisters who documented New York State", in recent issues of NYGBR. Quite interesting. Perhaps your genealogical society subscribes to that quarterly. But...they were human too, and they did make mistakes. One mistake she/they made was using a typewriter that only printed half a capital letter whenever she/they used the shift key. I make misteaks two. so hoo am I to complane?. Thanks, Barber sisters! I am hoping that someone will be able to make a muddy situation a bit clear. The NORTHRUP in question is Mr. Charles NORTHRUP. He was born, according to the information from my cousin, on Mar 4, 1837 in Delaware County, NY. His mother is Hannah DINGEE b. Oct 1815 (one of three) in Fishkill, Dutchess, NY. She married (I think) twice. Once to a Mr. NORTHRUP (of which I do not know anything about), and later remarried to Mr. James HARTWELL (I'm assuming in 1840s). From another post (way back in 2006), I have come to understand that James and Hannah had several children: Sarah, William Henry (1843-1919 Gilboa, Schoharie Co.-m.Ellen Tamsett), Harrietta b.1845, George Addison (1845- 1902 Gilboa, Schoharie Co. -m.Mary Leroy), Daniel b.1847,Mary (1847-1922 -m.George Halstead), Jennie (1852-1921 -m.Lyman Quackenbush), Ira (1854- )m.Ida Cobine. They may be others, I am not sure. I am hoping that someone in the last 6 years has been able to determine who the father of Charles NORTHRUP is ... Charles NORTHRUP went on to marry Mary ANNE Darling (parents Marcus and Jane(tte) Darling). They had 5 children, one of which was Douglas Charles NORTHRUP (My 2nd-Great-Grand-father). While I am interested in the Hartwells, and the Dingees, my main focus is Charles NORTHRUP and His unnamed father. It is my hope that someone will be able to help. Thank you for your time and consideration. Christa Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
