Who's eagerly digesting the 1940 census? Have you come up for air yet? Springfield has only 2 Enumeration Districts. 39-64 has only 18 pages, but I can't find my great grandmother. I have the East Springfield Meeneghans on the farm, but "the girls" lived just south of the Center on the main road. We should have Ellen Broderick Meeneghan, who was alive until 1949. She would have been about 71. I'm not sure whether Anne, Kate, or Mary were living home or working out. Mary was the nurse at the Knox School. Katie was Rosie the Riveter in Schenectady for a period. I have Ellen's sister, Mary McDonough, who would have been across the street. Is anybody seeing something I'm not? Thanks, Sara

Most of my help from NY has been via a WONDERFUL person, Leigh Eckmair (Library Historian), who has lent her talents and support over the years. Leigh finally found a document proving the family I suspected was that of my 3rd great grandfather was correct!!! My 3rd great grandfather was Jesse D Butts. He was born in Buttternuts, Otsego Co., in 1821-22 (have all sorts of data but no DOB). He married Lucinda Furbush on 11/5/1840 in Pittsfield. Suspected parents of Jesse were Elijah Butts (CT)& Rebecca Dunbar (MA). The Old Church Burying Grounds (aka Harmony Church in Morris)had a Butts family buried there consisting of Elijah, Rebecca along with two daughters, Rebecca & Julia Ann, who each died on their birthdays in 1824!!! I'd like to know more about them, if possible. Was able to learn about Jesse's sister, Lovisa Butts who was the second wife of Joshua Cary. They had a child but that line eventually died out I believe. Also was able to learn a little bit about Jess's sister, Hannah Butts who was the second wife of Samuel Upham. Recently learned of another sister, Eliza Butts who married Samuel Miller who recently became known through the will of her sister, Hannah. I have no idea where Eliza was buried but she is not in the Morris cemetery with her parents and siblings. After the death of Elijah, Jesse sold his land and moved his little family to IL where he remained for the balance of his life. He died in 1880 shortly after the 1880 census was taken in Cook Co. Jesse's wife was also a "local girl". I'm certain that Lucinda was the daughter of Sylinda or Cylinda Furbush who was shoooown in on of the census reports at age 78 as Linda Furbush . . . Have done a lot of research on the Furbush family in IA but now much to go on there in NY. My "interest" is in docummenting as much as possible about my ancestors. I'm the last living descendant that had verbal information passed on to them by my grandparents. Had always listened to the stories but never imagined it would ultimmately lead me into a 40 year search!!! Can't explain it, but I feel that I have a very close bond with these ancestors!!! My tree now includes over 11 thousand people related by blood or marriage!!! And I want to know all the stories possible. Just following the lineage is simply not good enough!! Wish I could saya that the living descendants I've managed to locate were more co-operative, but to date only one has been even slightly interested. Many have taken the data I've collected and then disappeared while others have inherited some sort of resentment towards "family" without reason . . . It's often difficult but I do keep on trying . . . Do you think you could help me with some of the NY ancestors? Blessings. I know there is a record for their arrival in New York in 1827 on Ancestry as well. I'd be interested to hear from anyone else who might have any information about what happened to his children James (b. 28 May 1835), Elizabeth (b. 7 January 1838) and Julieann (b. 5 March 1840) who were all born in Richfield. I have made some progress with Find A Grave but here's where one muxt be careful - they're all contributions made by people who may not have the correct information at the time they set up the memorials. One of the most recent problems is that I know both Jesse Dunbar and his wife Hannah Elizabeth White Dunbar are buried in the Laurens Village Cemetery, along with other family members, and yet the photographer in that area was unable to find a grave location or marker for either of them. It's possible the markers have deteriorated and/or been destroyed however there should be some record of the location of their graves . . . Don't know who to contact. How fortunate to have a relative living in MORRIS!!!! Is she interested in genealogy???? Many thanks. Leslie (AZ) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have just joined this list as I've recently learned that a branch of the Dutch Williamson family lived in Otsego County, NY. I also understand that most of this Samuel Williamson family left Hartwick by 1836-38, with only a son, Calvin, staying behind. Calvin is believed to have married Sarah Maria Steere c. 1849 in Otesgo Co. Sarah's parents being James and Sally Wells (Lippitt) Where would the records be for the time period between 1780's and 1838? I accidently sent an email to the Otsego mailing list in error, when it should have gone to the Rensselaer County page. Sorry.
My Bennet, Darrow, and Ketcham families were very early residents in Rensselaer County, and I am planning a visit to the are and wondered if I could get some help as to where the best places to visit to find information would be. Jabin Bennet died there in 1799, but the surrogate records on film don’t give much. Are there more records at the court house that might be helpful. Also, is there a genealogical or historical society that has early church, tax, or other records? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Brent Glad
