    3. You can always try to track down his heirs, and get permission to place the booklet online. So long as there is no intention to reprint, people are often pleased to have material made available to a wider audience. I have frequently obtained permission from authors and copyright holders to place material on line on my James Fenimore Cooper website -- sometimes including whole full-length books. 3. Hi All original work is copyrighted regardless of notice... it's automatic... that aside... see below, the copyright is good for 50 years after the author's death...so if the author died before 1954 you're ok to republish... your "edited" work will have the advantage of copyright until 50 years after your death unless you expressly waive your right. "Copyright law protects the exclusive right of originators of "works" to publish and re-publish their work. This protection applies regardless of whether the work in question is published (such as a book or an annual report) or not (such as an internal company memo), and whether someone has put it out in the public domain (such as on a website) or not. This protection expires after the space of 50 years following the death of the originator, regardless of who holds copyright at that time. However, it is the created expression of the originator which is protected by law, not "ideas," "words" or "facts." There are therefore useful benchmarks by which one can evaluate whether one needs to obtain permission from the originator in order to use material in one's own work, such as theses, research projects, journal articles, etc., which are intended for publication. 3. Hiya folks. I am looking for some information and perhaps you can point me to a cooperative contacst who could help me. I am looking for someone, my aunt, who lived at 36 Beekman Avenue, N. Tarrytown in February 1944. It is the last contact I have of her and we figure that perhaps tracing the landowner may give some clues. Other possibilities: First Name: Patience/Omeda/Peg/Margo/Margaret (She went by Peg and Omeda when we knew her) Last Name: On birth certificate: Patience Eckerson although she went by "Gras" Birthdate: 11/21/21 in Seward, NY She attended school in Otego, NY. She married William Dietrich after 1944. He was in the military. We think the army. -- Would someone be willing to find out who the landowner was at 36 Beekman for me? -- Does anyone know some kind souls/historians/cooperative town clerks I could contact or visit? -- If I went to Tarrytown/Sleep Hollow, can anyone give me pointers of whom to see? -- She lived on Beekman in N. Tarrytown and visited Sufferen and Patterson - does anyone know of folks that still live in the area that I could contact? -- Am I asking the right questions??? Any pearls of information you could share, we would be grateful for. Thanks in advance, Cindy

    3. Hi Elaine. I have been waiting to reply about Rufus Graves but I think, but not sure yet, he is a brother to my 4th great grandmother, Susannah Graves. Susannah Graves Goodrich came to Pittsfield in 1793 from Pittsfield MA, along with her husband Hubbard Goodrich. I believe Rufus came a little later. I have been looking for Susannah's parents for a long time. In her married record it stated she was from Granville, MA. I have been there and talked with the librarian from Granville but they don't have any records that far back but I feel there are too many time Rufus show up by Susannah. Hubbard and Susannah moved to Otselic in Chenango Co about 1825 but their son Alphues Goodrich moved to South Edmeston where he build his house on Goodrich road. Susannah and Hubbard are buried in Otselic cem. We found their graves in 1999 when we visit Bill Beardsley who is taken care of the grave of my other 4th great grandmother, Tamar Fairchild who is buried on his property.-I guess you know Rufus is! buried in Robinson's Corner Cem in Edmeston along with his wife and daughter?-I know this is not helping you a lot but I fell strongly there is a connection between Susannah and Rufus. Let me hear what you think? I'm sending it to West. and Dutchess but I keep getting a reject for Otsego. Will some kind person send it to that list because I don't remember which list the inquiry was from. Thanks I don't remember exactly where I found it but this is information I got off the internet and kept in my fiiles ..... Service completed before WWI = The oldest records pertaining to military service veterans are at the National Archives, for service that was completed before the following dates: ARMY - enlisted, 11/1/1912, officer, 7/1/1917, NAVY - enlisted, 1/1/1886, officer, 1/1/1903, MARINE CORPS - 1/1/1905, COAST GUARD - 1/1/1898. National Archives Trust Fund (NATF) forms must be used to request these records. Obtain these forms by email from inquire@nara.gov or write to National Archives Records Admin., Old Military and Civil Records (NWTCB-Military), Textual Services Division, 700 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20408-0001. For records of later service a form is available at http://www.nara.gov/regional/mprs/180.html or a search of the NARA website at http://www.archives.gov/index.html It doesn't take long to get the form but seems an eternity before the record arrives. I have found the burial places of a couple of military ancestors on the website www.findagrave.com and on www.interment.net. The military is slowly listing all burials in National Cemeteries, gives you a start on birth, death.
