    3. For Aletha, re: "Smith B. Reynolds who died in Cherry Valley about 1827 leaving a wife and family." That name is unusual enough that he was easy to find in my primary Reynolds reference. The index had only one Smith B. Reynolds. Could he be the one b 28 May 1800 and d 26 Sep 1828? Son of Solomon Reynolds and Elizabeth Maria Green, with siblings James Green, Keziah, Joanna, John, Seymour, William, Mercy, Benjamin Wildman, Solomon and Noah Solomon? Any of these fit in? If so, his father Solomon served in the Rev. War, as certified by DAR memberships 16216 and 104002, according to pg 213 of S. F. Tillman's 1959 "Descendants of Christopher Reynolds" (known to have errors). This book shows the ancestry of Smith B. Reynolds, but not his wife or their children, or where they lived. 3. Greetings from a new lister. I'm looking for information on Smith B. Reynolds who died in Cherry Valley about 1827 leaving a wife and family. He was reportedly struck and killed by another man and I am hoping to eventually find a newspaper report of the incident. I'm also trying to find information on his niece, Mary Hammond, who was living in Cherry Valley in 1839 and in possesion of her grandfather's Bible. I'd be interested in sharing information with anyone who might be connected to this family. Regards, Aletha Roberts

    2. Diane Marshall
    3. Oliver McIntyre b: 1763 in Pelham, Hampshire Co., MA married Mary Oliver abt 1787 in Chester, Hampden Co., MA. Oliver and Mary went to Otsego Co. where Oliver bought 25 acres of land near the Percy Holmes Rd., Westford, Otsego Co. Since there are three cemeteries in that area, it would seem likely that he/they would be buried in one of them. Nothing is recorded. Could someone help to find the burial of Oliver and 1st wife Mary, also 2nd wife Mary/Polly Miller Hitchcock who left the property sometime after 1820. Oliver and Mary/Polly had 3 children, one being Marsena Hitchcock McIntyre who married Polly Oliver. Are there any Oliver researchers who could help me with this surname? Thank you for any help. 2. Amy Lathrop
    3. I'm trying to associate the name with any area, as I am trying to locate the father of Henry D. Arkland who was born in 1834, somewhere in New York. His mother was Fanny Ferguson who's twin was Francis Ferguson, who parents were Jeremiah Ferguson and Lucy Hollister. The Ferguson family is known to have Lived and worked, owned property, in Herkimer , and Oneida counties. I thought it very likely that Henry's father would be from some near by area, ie: Otsego. This would not be the first time that I have found Arkland spelled Arickland. It happens quite often infact. There have been many misspellings.

    3. Amy Lathrop I took a look, and I fear I must agree with the NYGBS indexers that the names in question are Strickland, not Arickland -- I see ancestry.com says J. Arickland, but since the Stricklands are welll accounted for in Springfield in 1800 and 1820, I see no way of reinterpreting the three 1810 entries as Arickland rather than Strickland. There are three Stricklands listed for Springfield in 1810 -- N, J, and E. (Otsego County census takers in 1810, infuriatingly, generally gave only initials instead of first names). But Noah and John Strickland are present in the 1800 Census, and Noah Strickland for that of 1820. John and Noah are also in the 1790 Census (Montgomery County/Canajoharie -- Otsego County only created in 1791). I see few Arklands in New York State, and none anywhere before 1840. Any particular reason to associate the name with this area? Hugh MacDougall Official Historian Village of Cooperstown 8 Lake Street, Cooperstown, NY 13326-1016 coophist@stny.rr.com
