    1. [NYOTSEGO] Harvey Dean of Otsego County
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: jpalmer13185 Surnames: Dean Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.otsego/4897/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Years ago, I lived in Delaware county and after college worked in Syracuse. Am trying to find a veteran to place in my book of 187 others already written. I believe his name was Harvey Dean but only met him a couple of times. On the way back to Syracuse I was surprised to find my Father's car in the driveway of a salvage yard on the upper side of the road outside of Morris I believe. He was a nice old man and helped Brockway of Syracuse with an old truck later fixed and proudly set in the showroom. He would be a cousin or so to my Mother, all of the older family are now gone. If someone knew of him (about 1970) I would like to know his name, his wife's name, children or anything about him. Thanks very much, Jeremiah Palmer Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: silverfox3280 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.otsego/4893.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am a Hallock Researcher and will offer what I know. I have questions below, as well. In the 1850 Census for Worcester, Otsego, New York, USA: Stephen Hallock, 54 yrs old, wf Mary-51, ch Wealthy-11, Robert-9. (There is a Stephen in 1850 Maryland, Otsego that may be another son, Nicholas-13 on following page, and Alpheus Hallock family on following page). In the 1860 census is found: Worcester, Otsego, New York, USA, Stephen-55, Lucretia-45 Hallock staying with James & Catherine Watson family - five children all under age of 10, one called Stephen and one called Alpheus Watson I could go on, but it sounds like you may have the rest. WHAT CORROBORATES CATHERINE WATSON AS WIFE OF STEPHEN AND PROBABLY WIFE MARY? 1) Age fits - her age would fit into their family. 2) Catherine Watson named sons Stephen and Alpheus. Stephen Hallock had a son named Alpheus Hallock. 3) Stephen and (2nd?) wife Lucretia are staying with the Watson family in 1860. This is hardly proven. Would appreciate any more info you have to prove she is Catherine Hallock, daughter of Stephen. QUESTIONS Age of Alpheus and Benjamin Watson indicates there was not nine months between them. Was one adopted? I haven't been able to find Catherine Hallock in the 1850 census. Her not being with Stephen in 1850 as a single woman adds a bit of uncertainty to her being a daughter of Stephen. Who were Stephen's wives. Mary? Lucretia? Can daugher Wealthy, in 1850 census, born 1839, be traced? PLACE IN 1928 HALLOCK GENEALOGY This Stephen fits: Stephen-7, William-,6, Israel-5, Zebulon-4, William-3,2, Peter-1 Hallock Pg 623 of the Hallock Genealogy, which says he born Worcester, Otsego County and lived there. Had Joseph Potter, William H, Levi G, James M, Lorinda (md Roe). Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Gerald P. Holmes, "We're Called Christian First: A History of the Christian Churches of Hartwick", Edmeston: Bishop Printshop, 1978, p. 93, in a chapter on the Christian Church of Hartwick, Hartwick Village: ------------------- April 1890 Rev. Alonzo Shafer began his pastorate presenting letters for himself and his wife Malissa, and Francis K. Shafer from South Valley. In November 1890, Lucinda Wells suggested organizing a home mission Sunday School Dept."for the purpose of a more thorough study of the Scriptures." Malissa Shafer was elected superintendent of this department. On May 23, 1891 there were four who requested to be sprinkled as their choice as to mode of baptism and the ordinance was performed by Elder Shafer. It was the first time in the history of the church. There were 16 who were baptized this same day in the waters of Otego Creek near the pond of Harrington and Alger. Also during 1890 and 1891 several from the North Church joined this church in the village. On October 27,1891, Elder Shafer was made a committee to sell the old church carpets and he auctioned them off to the highest bidder. They were sold to Sheffield Harrington for the sum of $3.00. In February 1892 Rev. A. Shafer vacated the pulpit and made arrangements with Rev. A.J. Wayman of Portlandville to supply until the end of March. Other pastors who filled the pulpit included Elder A. Damon, and Elder Henry Brown. ---------------------------- On p. 100 of the same book there is a list of the Pastors of the Hartwick Village Church..... 1889-1890 Rev. William Case 1890-1892 Rev.
