--=======6312ED======= Content-Type: text/plain; x-avg-checked=avg-ok-6D8329B3; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Thanks, Ernie. I'll pass along the info to Joe Pierre, author of The Descendants of Thomas Pier, with lots of other info I've discovered. But I'm not holding my breath that he'll make a revised version! VBG I've written several articles over the years about my 3x-gr-grandfather, Abner Pier, and as I find more details, am writing more. I'm working on one about the "Annus Horribilis" of his poor wife, Lucy, the year (Nov 1810-Jan 1811) when Abner and so many of their children died. BTW, does anyone know if people who lived there in 1810 celebrated Thanksgiving? I'll put in a Google search, but thought somebody might have an idea. TIA! René- The presumption is, based on Confidentiality requirements, that a safe rule to follow is NOT to post any information concerning anyone who has been dead at less than 70 years. Family researchers may post a message that they will share their information concerning members of their family with other members of their family but need to be con- tacted off line. Remember, there are a lot of SCAM artists out there who are stealing identities based upon information that is readily available through public sources. They also watch all kinds of Chat Rooms and message lists and find Genealogy Lists a great source of "useful" information. While it is essential to share our information with legitimate researchers, it is not necessary to provide that same info to people who are going to use it for other, illegal, purposes. Good info, nicely said! Thanks, Jerry Dalton, Dallas
Hi, I saw your research name of Pier. No relation to me BUT I went to High school in Schenevus, NY in the 1930s, even went to the reception center for military duty with Edmund (Punk) Pier. He was in the D-Day invasion and was blown out of his foxhole - and lived. His younger sister, Shirley, was one of our School's three lovely drum majorettes. That was in the late 1930s and early 1940s. I don't know the family but I hope it fills in an empty spot on your chart. Happy Hunting! Hillington Cemetery in Morris is where a lot of my family is buried, ---PLATT and PITTSLEY also ERICSON. I have been there the last 4yrs., not being able to locate some that i knew were there, i wrote to historian for help in locating them. She sent me a map and for the last 3yrs i still have not been able to locate my missing family members. This year i asked a couple of men(caretakers), they said i hadnt looked far enough. I sure hadnt, all these years, i never knew there was another part to the cemetery and also another fountain and a hill,. Up on this hill by the fountain were my long lost relatives. This summers trip was a great find. Jo Anne Ericson chambers/ Austin,Tx.
Gary Greene ...THANK YOU for the W. Oneonta Cemeteries. Found some of my Straits and a missing Harrington. How about the Springfield Center Cemetery? Noel Dries is the sexton...is that private, too??
Listers, Once again I will offer, FOR A LIMITED TIME, lookups in Gertrude Barber's 5-volume "Abstracts of Wills in Otsego County NY from 1794-1850". This offer expires midnight September 30th, 2004. Hopefully another volunteer will pick up after that. Please read ALL of the instructions below, or I may not be able or willing to help you. The index to Otsego County will abstracts can be found at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyotsego/barberindex.htm PLEASE check the above index, because if the name you seek is not in this index, I have nothing to offer. .... Only one request per message. .... Send your requests direct to me - I will answer via the Otsego list if found; direct to you if not found. (this keeps the list from being unnecessarily cluttered) mailto:k2mi@frontiernet.net .... Keep your messages as short as possible. .... Deaths must have been between 1794 and 1850 - no exceptions. .... Please use the following format for your subject: POTTER, Caleb - died 1846 or POTTER, Caleb - will probated 1846 .... It helps me if you "cut and paste" the line from the index into your message, so I can go directly to the volume and page in Miss Barber's book. .... Sorry, but I won't answer any general requests such as "any Thompson in Otsego County 1830-1840". Specific requests for year, surname and first name only, please, as general searches take far too much time. Note that the Otsego County Surrogate Court has many wills that Miss Barber did not include in these books. I do not live in Otsego County NY, and do not have access to original papers of that area...just Miss Barber's abstracts. I will repeat this message on NYOTSEGO-L once a week through the end of September for the benefit of those who come in after my first posting.
