    2. Jean, Your remarks were interesting but might have been more enlightening if we had seen the message to which you were responding. Unfortunately, it did not appear on the Otsego Co. List. Perhaps you could forward it to this list? Sue Susan M. Hillier Roe SueMHR@aol.com Seal Beach, CA A friend is one who comes in when the whole world has gone out. Anonymous

    2. Jean Snow
    3. I was wondering why the references to PETA. I've been so busy, I didn't read the earlier Dutch-L messages till after the second one which came today. I signed and checked the wonderful petition comments - good on-ya, Ginnie for making it available to us - you're always on the ball! What wonderful comments! I'm going to pass this on to a number of my writers who have roots in NY, as well as others. Why doesn't someone tell these ignorant (and stupid, as well) people, that the suffix "kill" (in NY State especially) does NOT mean to kill or murder or provoke death. It is the old Dutch word for stream or brook. So Fishkill = Fish stream. How iggerant can the iggerant get?? Very, I guess! Ginny, I'm passing on your remarks and directions to the petition to my other NY State Lists and a lot of my writers, family, and friends, who will be interested, and I hope sign it. Jean Chapman Snow - formerly from Putnam County, where there are still lots of "kills' including the City of Peekskill where my sister now lives. I'm a former English and French Teacher, now columnist, published writer, and teacher of writing, who loves language and hates to see our rich English language abused by the ignorant, no matter how well-meaning they may be.

    3. I found a Mary Ann Lansing, born 1806 in Schodak, NY Rennselaer Cty, her parents were Everett Lansing and Jennette Campbell. She married James Spencer Willson in Cherry Valley Presbyterian church in July 1825. Perhaps your Jennie was named after this Jenette. Try Rennselaer Cty for info. Terry

    3. Hi Linda, This isn't much, but I have a Peter Lansing in my records. There is a questionable birthdate I have of August 1823, but frankly 1812 would fit better. I do know this Peter's parents were a Peter Lansing and Jane Burnside. The elder Peter and Jane had 9 children from what I gather. If Peter was born in 1812 that would put him as the sixth child. As for spouses, my records just have a questionable name of Hellenda. No parents listed. If you are interested in other information let me know. I am more interested in the Burnside lineage, but will share what I have. Steve Kansas City, MO -----Original Message----- From: Tuttgriggs@aol.com Sent: Jul 24, 2005 3:26 PM To: NYOTSEGO-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NYOTSEGO] searching for info on Lansing I am searching for information on Peter Lansing, born 1812 (?) in New York; died 1894 in Richmondville. His wife was Harriet, born 1834 in Ohio, died 1898 in Richmondville. We know that Peter was in Cherry Valley, Otsego County in the 1850 census with wife Harriet and sons (?) James and Edgar. By the 1860 census the family was in Walworth County, Wisconsin, where our ancestor Jennie (Jeanette ?) was born 16 September 1862. Perhaps Harriet was Peter's second wife, because she was so much younger than he, and her age does not match with the birth of James (about 1836) and Edgar (about 1841). Peter also was the father of Elbert (born about 1851 in New York) and Louisa (born 1854 in Illinois). We know that Jennie was the daughter of Peter and Harriet but are not sure of the mother of the other siblings. Jennie Lansing was baptized at the Episcopal Church of Richmondville 6 April 1879. She married Charles Hallenbeck of Cobleskill. Charles and Jennie Hallenbeck relocated at some point to Oneonta where Jennie died 14 July 1929. Charles Hallenbeck died there 4 June 1956. Charles and Jennie had three sons: Fred, born 1893; Harold born 1895; and Karl born 1898. Obviously the Lansing family had an unusual migration. Any help with information on this Lansing family is greatly appreciated. linda tutt green bay, wisconsin
