I am not sure the date of Laura's death. A transcript of the cemetery says she died in 1831, but I'm quite sure that is wrong, so I guess it could have been 1891. Her will is dated 1882. The family did live in Chenango in 1820. If you know anything related to the below, I'd be much, much obliged. Also, do you know if the NY City Public Library would be a good resource for me? Of possible interest is an obituary that appeared in the January 31, 1906 issue of the Brookfield Courier (in Madison Counrym just across the county border from Northeast Otsego County; Otsego, Madison, Oneida, and Chenango counties come very close to each other]. I quote excerpts: Mrs Laura Story Austin died at the home of her nephew, Morton E. Burdick, in this village on January 23....Her early life was spent in this locality, but for twenty years or more she had resided with one of her sons in Michigan.... Mrs. Austin was born in the Village of Bridgewater [Oneida County] in 1823, and was a member of one of the early families of that township..... Mrs. Austin is survived by her two sons, Chas. Austin of Grinnell, N.D., and George Austin of Wildwood, Mich. She leaves two sisters, Mrs. Luna Wilcox of Leonardsville [village in Town of Brookfield] and Mrs. Sarah Coggeswell of Washington Mills.... the interment being made in the cemetery at Unadilla Forks [village in Town of Plainfield, Otsego County]. The Otsego County clerk doesn't have that info. Also, there are two different locations- The Town of Oneonta is in West Oneonta. The City of Oneonta records are in the City clerk's office. Both are helpful and both will check their records to make sure they have it if you give them a call. (you then may have to mail them a form to get the doc) Just google them to get their phone numbers. Good luck, Max Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I transcribed 800 of those marriages from 1908-Sept. 14, 1910 several years ago and they are on the Otsego Co. web page (usgenweb.com). These records so have witnesses listed. I don't know if they are on familysearch.org or not. There are also some books with divorces...can't remember how many or dates. I think this misleading.
