As an "experienced" email and mail-list person, I understand both sides of that referenced discussion. As with many things... there is always a need for some folks to "raise" their level of understanding and others to "lower" their expectations to achieve a balance for the common good. *BUT* I would like to *RESPECTFULLY* disagree with one small, but important (in my mind) thing that Lauren has stated. IF list members were to ALL "typically respond to the sender of messages versus sending my answers to the list"... I believe that impairs the purpose and effectiveness of the list IMHO. Excluding the replies/answers to list queries, subjugates the list to being "something less" than even a genaalogy forum on Ancestry, Rootsweb or Genealogy.com. Often forgotten is the fact that this list and MANY others are ARCHIVED for later search/browsing and aids researchers that are new "to the fold" or have now progressed to a further point and NOW could use that valuable information that did not make it to the list. I, warmly, suggest folks not adopt this thinking and instead post any and all "on-topic" replies/info to the list, for the better good. I have no problem each with individual's choices and and do not want to come across as saying anybody is wrong. I only speak to advance my personal opinion that what benefits the list is MORE exchange "on" the list. I am referring to issues having nothing to do with genealogy, the 'intent' of this list. I have been using lists for years and have the ability to discern when people on the list 'might be interested' in the tread. But I accept your thoughts. I believe too much time has been given to this issue 'on the list', it has nothing to do with researching genealogy, which is the reason I joined. I prefer to keep my comments restricted to the 'original poster' but to keep faith with the administrators request, as I understand it, I post my comments to the list. No matter what I feel in response to this issue in the future, I will not continue to comment on this issue. I am only interested in genealogy issues from this list.
