Hi All When I went to Oswego ( about 10 years ago ) I went for 3 days with my daughter to search records. I had no idea of just what was available and Barbara went out of her way to help me. I was floored by the amount of help she gave me. No question was too trivial to answer. She even found records for me to search that I never thought of. As a result of her help I visited the cemetery where my great grandparents are buried near Mexico. The house they lived in when they first got married about 1850. (Joseph LITTLE & Eliza Jane WELCH )at New Haven. I also visited a cousin I had never met before and one I had not seen in over 50 years. I got a number of photocopies of documents (very reasonable charges) from Barbara as well as a great feeling about the people I met . The lady in the "family" farm house was wonderful . She took us in her home and showed us around the house. What a feeling to be inside the home of your great grandparents who lived there over 100 years ago. I think our expenses came to about $100.00 but it was well spent and I don't begrudge one cent of it. I had a fantastic time visiting and was fortunate enough to get more information than I thought I ever would. All because of Barbara P.S. I also spent money on gifts to bring home for my grandchildren. Carol, tell 'em how much you spent in the community on that wonderful trip. (Even if it was only for gas and meals!) It all adds up. PLEASE, please do not do this . Barb is an asset to your county in regards to the knowledge she has. I went to Oswego looking for links to my past & low and behold I was given a treat I never expected from a person in her position. She is the most knowledgeable person I have ever come across in searching genealogy in many a day. I have been doing genealogy for over 25 years. You can ask her a question and the answer is 99% of the time right at her finger tips or knows where it is. She was able to answer questions I had about my family that is not found in files or books (1885 time frame). She made my trip enjoyable and well worth the time and money I spent in your city. I was made to feel welcome and she went out of her way to assist me in any way she could. So please reconsider your options re; budget cuts. Letting Barbara Dix go is one option you can not afford take as it would be a major error on your part.. She is so well known for her kindred spirit in the genealogy world, here in Canada as well as the U.S.A.and around the world.
