For sure I didn't intend to in any way disparage the fine work that is and has been done on that site! Its just that it requires Flash version 8 ONLY - the only site on the web that I've visited that had that requirement! Adobe has not seen fit to publish version 8 for any operating system other than Windoze. BTW the current free Ancestry 1930 US Census is a Flash application from end to end and it works just fine with my set-up. No I can't afford Ancestry but free? That I can appreciate. Sorry that I stirred up this mess - Dave
I won't use Ancestry's free areas as they always want a credit card.... why I ask if it's free - ans - if you forget something like a timeframe - they got cha... they'll do anything for a penny - even 'take your work then make you pay to use their service... don't trust them. -----Original Message----- From: David and Janet [mailto:djrpublic@cfl.rr.com] Sent: June 25, 2006 9:25 AM To: NYOSWEGO-L@rootsweb.com Subject: more Fulton Post Cards and an appology of sorts For sure I didn't intend to in any way disparage the fine work that is and has been done on that site! If someone does not want to use any of ancestry's free service, one should avoid all of Rootsweb, the mailing lists, the WorldConnect database, the county web pages, the individual personal web pages provided free by Ancestry. A good share of the free information people are used to using is found on servers provided by Ancestry. Not everyone may be able to afford the full subscription, but for those who can, it is a wonderful service for those of us researching our families. I could not help nearly as many people as I do were it not for Ancestry. And, someone said this latest free offer did not require a credit card number. And ..... they do not take anyone's work -- the individual databases on WorldConnect can be withdrawn by an individual whenever they chose if they so choose.
