I was going to stay quiet on this issue, but do want to say that I have a subscription to the "basic" Ancestry databases, plus the censuses, and it is through these that I have been able to find so many of my own and my husband's ancestors, as well as helping countless others through the census lookups I do for strangers (some of whom have become wonderful email friends). Ancestry is not without its faults, and I do agree it seems expensive.
