    3. I just wanted to send a list note about the Obituary Daily Times, which has a link at www.rootsweb.com ( or go to google.com, search 'obituary daily times' and then bookmark the link that displays. Some months ago, I started indexing obits from the Gouverneur Tribune Press. There is no copyright violation as the ODT (Obituary Daily Times) does not republish obits, they are simply making a reference to an obit (name, age at death, place of death, name of newspaper, date of newspaper and some optional fields (maiden name if any, nicknames, some other fields). If you volunteer, an ODT 'coach' will email you the upload program which will display a clickable icon on your desktop. This is a very straightforward form to allow keying in the obit reference. As you type, it will automatically make a surname all capital letters and will capitalize the first letter of a first name. The coach will review your obit submissions and advise if any errors for about six weeks (or maybe I was a slow learner!) and then you submit directly to a regional volunteer. As a volunteer, you will be subscribed to the ODT and receive a daily list of obit references. You also get the 'key' to the volunteer's names and email addresses. As a volunteer, you can request a full copy of an obit (for personal use only) which the submittor will email to you. You can also subscribe as a non-volunteer and see the obit references but you would have to contact the newspaper for a copy of the obit. Volunteers are asked to keep the full obit available for at least 3 months. I probably will keep the Gouverneur Tribune obits for a year. I have had a few requests to date for obits from the Gouverneur Tribune Press. I have made several requests for Sprague obits. If you subscribe to a small town paper you might consider volunteering for ODT. In the case of the Gouverneur paper, it is a weekly publication and there are generally just 5 - 10 obits. Keying them in and emailing to ODT generally takes me less than 20 minutes. While these are current obituaries (not from the 1800's) you may find some for people in their 80's or 90's that will fill in a missing link in your family history.
