Depending on what other responses you get, you may want to check out this site: http://www.nysl.nysed.gov/nysnp/ which lists old NY state newspapers on microfilm available via interlibrary loan. Read the site info on interlibrary loan. Check papers 'at the NY state library' and papers 'at other locations'. There were a few papers listed that cover 1851.
