Hi Daniel Since you have the letter it would be great to put in on the Mailing Lis (word for word)t as per the Original. No changes in Spelling nor facts. That would be helpful to anyone in the area that might be able to help you or go to the Court house or archvies to look information up for you. Did you send a photo copy of the letter to the Archives in Oswego County? This would be of the upmost interest to them and I am sure that they would be willing and ready to help you to obtain any information regarding this that they could find. Warm Regards Pat R
In response to this letter that I had asked for help. I am putting out the word to all of my elderly aunts and cousins for their input on the letter. I have only seen it at one of the family reunions. It took me several months to place our Amos in Hastings in your county and of his plan to remove to Michigan. It would help to know if an actual DLC was registered for the couple so that we can fill in the time line. We are holding our breath for the possibility that he first registered his claim and second sold it before leaving the county. The Columbia county census for New York seems to indicate that he was in or near Caanan in the Lebanon Springs Valley in 1800. New Lebanon was not a town of village until about 1810. Thanks everyone for your input. Daniel > Hi Daniel > > Since you have the letter it would be great to put in on the Mailing Lis > (word for word)t as per the Original. You can research the issue by looking at Oswego Co land records - either at the court house or using the indexes & deeds on LDS microfilm. His patent may or may not have been recorded, but if he sold the land it should have been. To complete the picture you can do that for Columbia Co where you know he ended up living. Good luck.
