    1. What to do when you find a listing for LDS Microfilm

    3. Someone posted the question 'what to do when you see an LDS microfilm of interest listed on the internet' and I'm not sure if anyone answered that. From www.familysearch.org <http://www.familysearch.org/> , click on 'Find a family history center near you..' Follow the links to find the FHC (Family History Center) closest to you. An address and phone number will be listed. You can call the FHC re what hours they are open. They are volunteer run, they welcome everyone (you do not have to be a Mormon/LDS) and they are free but welcome donations. There is a small handling charge to have film delivered to the FHC where you can then research it on their microfilm reader. I don't recall the exact charge but last I knew it was under $5. The centers typically have Saturday hours and at least one weekday where they are open later (til 8 p.m. or so) for the not yet retired among us. They will notify you when the film arrives and then keep it for (I think) 3 weeks. If a film is requested often enough I believe they make it permanent at the FHC where it is requested. There are typically many other resources at an FHC. They may have resources specific to their geographic location plus books, cd's and other material covering the entire U.S. The volunteer staff are generally very knowledgeable and helpful. You may find brochures about resources outside the domain of the LDS (local genealogy clubs, events, and resources). Hope this helps - Russ Sprague Kensington, Maryland
