Actually Fort Ontario was the last fort held by the British in the thirteen colonies. It was not officially turned over by the British until 1796. Hard to imagine loyalists making a run for Canada. Oswego county was formed in 1816. This is fairly indirect but you might want to search land records. If any of the people leaving Oswego county were landowners, seems like they might sell their land before moving to Canada. The period 1750 to 1825 includes the American Revolution, when some British sympathizers may have simply abandoned their land and fled to Canada. It could also help to find out which counties Oswego was formed from and on which dates. Some online searches may help. At all the various counties some of the oldest records available are land records, wills and probate records. They tend to be indexed in large books and easily searchable (unless lost in the proverbial courthouse fire!).
