Is anyone aware of a list or document which shows names etc. of those individuals leaving Oswego to arrive in Upper Canada (Prince Edward County and area) at some point between 1750 and 1825 .. Any help appreciated. Keith Bull Delaware, Ontario Canadur eh!!
Your best bet for useful info might be to narrow your query to one or a few surnames of interest. Oswego county was formed in 1816. This is fairly indirect but you might want to search land records. If any of the people leaving Oswego county were landowners, seems like they might sell their land before moving to Canada. The period 1750 to 1825 includes the American Revolution, when some British sympathizers may have simply abandoned their land and fled to Canada. It could also help to find out which counties Oswego was formed from and on which dates. Some online searches may help. At all the various counties some of the oldest records available are land records, wills and probate records. They tend to be indexed in large books and easily searchable (unless lost in the proverbial courthouse fire!). HI Keith I have no answer for you re your question below BUT I am also entertaining a similar issue. My ancestor Ezekial Griffin ( Griffis, Griffith) appeared in Oswego county in 1815. This was the first appearance of him in US though he was purportedly born in Rhode Island in 1790. I have always looked at Oswego's proximity to PEI and also how easy to traverse Lk Ontario. I have considered that his family may have returned to Canada at some point and then back to States after War of 1812. He may have been a Scot ( over the years it has become obvious to me that there were a lot marriage to Scots within our family tree) . I have never been able to connect him with an ancestry though I do have his marriage and descendency. I also am interested in such a list. Good luck and if you find one PLEASE share, it may open a door for many. I also am checking for more info.
