At the Fulton site if you click on the 'Help FAQ' link, and scroll down quite a bit there is a nice section on Boolean search. FAQ is for 'Frequently Asked Questions'. I would not scroll down quickly though as there is quite a bit of useful info before you get to Boolean search. An example of Boolean search I found useful recently was 'Sprague w/5 married' and 'Sprague w/5 died' (use the words but not the quotes in your own searched. This means I want to find the word Sprague within 5 words of married or within 5 words of died. If I was searching for my own name I could search 'Sprague w/5 Russell'. Once you put the search term in use the drop down list to select 'Boolean' as the type of search. A hi speed connection can make a very nice difference. The site is images, not text and can be slow to load. Most public libraries will have pcs with hi speed connections. What you could do to become familiar with the way the search methods work is find something ahead of time on some page and then search for it using the different ways mentioned in the site help link. You're right and the green were Catholic...But the fighting Irish were Catholic steming from Notre Dame. The catholic priest was French there during the Civil War, the French didn't want to fight in the Civil War but the Irish Catholic attending, wanted to much to the dismay of the Catholic priest, so hence came the phrase "The Fighting Irish" to make a long story short.. A small set (but dating back to 1809-1842) of Baptist records from Russell, NY has just been added today. The surname index to the Ogdensburg Methodist records is in progress and 3 books of unindexed page images is uploaded. From www.usgenweb.org, click NY then 'choose a county' and select St. Lawrence county. From the first page use 'select a link' then 'church records'. Most of the libraries offer FREE access. http://www.eogen.com/HeritageQuestOnline Info above from Dick Eastman. ================ Be sure you use the "Advanced" census search. You can only search for the exact spelling of a name. So be sure you try all possible spelling variations. Name spellings in census records can be totally unlike you expect. You can search for a given (first) name and location, which can be very useful for unique names. You can also search for all the people with a surname in a state or county or census district. The Heritage Quest and Ancestry.com census records are two of the very best sources for genealogy data. Be sure you add source notes or events that specify the source of your data to your genealogy program. Listing census data as events in sequential order in your genealogy program provides a great way to show the different birth years reported for the same individual over the years, and their "migration route". I think is still in the same place. I will ask my son-in -law who works for Minetto. they maintain a Worden Cem
Many of my ancestors are buried in the Schuyler Worden Family Cemetery. When I visited it in 2001, it was located west of Minetto, in a wooded area between Benson Ave. and Hillcrest Ave. on land that used to be part of Schuyler Worden's farm. That land eventually passed to his son-in-law Walter R. Perry, and was later known as the Ranous property. I have recently learned that the cemetery has been moved, presumably to make way for development. Is there anyone who can tell me who I should contact to find out where it is now located? Thank you for any assistance. Judy in Ocala
I'm not an admin for this board so I can't change your email address. In any case, it's designed to be 'self serve'. If you still have your old email address, send a note to the message list with the single word 'unsubscribe' in the text of the note (with no quotes). Next, from your new email address, send a note to the list with the single word 'subscribe' (again without the quotes and no other words) in the text of the note. It's a good idea to put 'subscribe' or 'unsubscribe' in the subject line of the note but the automatic process disregards that and checks for the 'magic woid' in the text. This current email just had the message board name in the list. I would suggest to all that you start a (free) account with one of the major internet based email services (hotmail or yahoo) and start using that for any message board. As you change from one intenet provider to another there is no need to use their email service and no need to have anyone change your address.
