Hi, I'm working on one of my brick walls, and woudl like to enlist the help if a volunteer or paid researcher to help me overcome it. THE PROBLEM: To learn the names of the parents of my great-great-great-grandfather, Duncan Fraser. BACKGROUND I'VE GOT: Duncan Fraser was reputedly born in Scotland (date of birth not known). He married Margaret "Maggie" Cheney, born 24 May 1849, daughter of George Cheney and Rosetta Farley of Mallorytown, Ontario, Canada. Duncan & Maggie had two children. The first was John Farley Fraser (my grt-grt-grandfather), born 9 April 1874 in Scriba, Oswego Co., NY, according to his obituary. The second was George E. Fraser, born about 1877. *Duncan died while Maggie was pregnant for George* I do not know if the family was living in Oswego County or in Ontario when Duncan died, but the consensus of traditions I've gathered is that they were living in Oswego Co. After Duncan died, Maggie moved the family back to Ontario where she moved in with her borther Henry Cheney of Mallorytown. She lived there rest of her life, dying in 30 December 1837, by then the oldest living resident of Mallrytown. RESEARCH I'VE DONE: I have searched Oswego County, and Ontarion census records for 1870, 1871 and 1880 -- I cannot find this family for any of those years. I have checked online burial records for Oswego County and cannot find any record of a gravesite. Similarly I have searched online Onmtario burial indices and find no record for Duncan. I have one Canadian mariage record that mentions the marriage of a daughter of George & Rosetta Cheney of Mallorytown, named Mary, to a Richard Duncan Fraser of Edwardsburgh, Ontario, Canada, but as tempting as this record is, the facts are a bit off. Family tradition includes mention of Williamstown, Oswego Co., NY. I have a webpage about the family at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~legends/fraser.html I do not live in the area, so I can't do on-site research myself. Can anyone help me, please? Thanks! Mark

My sentiments, exactly. I will be sending a check tomorrow. Tom, thankyou so much for all you have done for us. It would seem to me, we could show our Thanks for Tom, by each of us sending financial help, even if its only $10, it would have cost ALL OF US a fortune, if we tried to each get it on our own, that is if we knew where to look....it is time to show "Our act of kindness"...sandra Thank you Tom....
I'm sure Tom would agree that this was not caused by deliberate vandalism, but rather by greed. Tom did all the work and someone was using a quick way to get copies of everything for their own purposes. It's possible that they intended to share this information from a second location. The mistake was in not getting permission from Tom, and then, if he agreed to it. to coming up with a way to share the information without creating such havoc. Larry
Hello Tom, This is terrible not just for us, but most of all for you. Why would anyone do such a thing? You have been so generous and giving. I have found information about of my Williams and Geekie families because of your site. I live in Florida, so it is a faint hope that I will ever get to Oswego just to research. What are you going to do? Faye Faye Irvin Orange Park, Fl

Tom (and all who have used his site), You have done a great job on your site. It is so valuable, priceless as they say. I absolutely love it! I have seen many offers to aid you financially. List members, instead of asking if he needs aid, lets just do it. I will be sending mine and only wish that it could be much, much more. Donna Brown
Is there an address on the website and is it up? Tom, I am so sorry. I found many family members for my Loomis and Moore/More Family at your site. Please let me know if I can help financially. You can email at prtd@cox.net. I know every little bit helps. I too am very disappointed that someone could be so cruel and rude as to destroy such a valuable website. I have found numerous newspaper articles that I would have never been able to find without an exact date. Countless marriages, obits and news articles. What a shame! If there's anything I can do to help please don't hesitate to ask. I just can't believe it. Dear Tom - I can't believe this has happened to your wonderful website. I found some wonderful civil war news articles, obituary, business ventures etc. on my grx3grandfather. Found obituaries on his children, wife, father - I could go on and on. Without your tremendous contribution and without of doubt, hard work, expenses - I never would have found this valuable information on my family history. If I may help you financially, please email me @ sew@gate.net Sue Wilson ----- Original Message ----- From: MuskratBay@aol.com To: NYONONDA@rootsweb.com ; nyoswego@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, November 10, 2006 8:01 PM Subject: [NYOSWEGO] Sad news about FultonHistory.com My system file structure was damages by some people who were using a mass down loader to down load thousands of files from this site, this occurred in the last 2 or 3 days (nov 7-9 ) I lost many directories that will have to be rebuilt.......for the life of me I can not figure out whey they wanted to do this !!!!! We love you Tom. Thanks for your hard work. You are appreciated.
This stinks. So sorry to see this has happened to you, Tom. Your site has been so helpful to me, and I have told lots of others about it and have heard nothing but praise. Hoping that your recovery is as painless as possible.
Tom- How awful!! I hope you know how many people have benefited greatly from your site. It has been a godsend to me - I'm out in California and it is so hard to research New York from here. I can't tell you how much I appreciate all your hard work that has given me such an amazing amount of information about people whose names I didn't even know a few years ago.
