I need to do a little research; then I'll let you know what I learned about the best place to donate it. Where do you live? Thanks so much for caring and acting! 3. Hello, I thought you might like to know, since the last email, I've uploaded more items. Several more bio's with lots of names throughout, Parkhurst Battalion NY Militia-War of 1812 Soldiers names, list of some male births in the county, 2nd part of Sandy Creek history, the Civil War Soldiers from Orwell NY, Church histories that include names of early members and several more items. As I go through my emails more items will be added regularly. Have a nice-safe 4th of July Holiday! 2. Russ
    3. Here is a link for a listing of NY newspapers on microfilm: http://www.nysl.nysed.gov/nysnp/ You should check 'papers at the library' and 'papers at other locations'. I believe most would be available for research through interlibrary loan. Initiate the load request at your local library. Use a local college or university if there is one close to you. They generally serve the local public regardless of whether you are a student. Hope this helps - Russ Sprague Kensington, Maryland -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, July 02, 2003 11:33 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: NYS & NYC Resources How does one get newspaper acticles for August, 1954? 1. Poorhouse Records ALERT!
    2. Poor House Lady
    3. I would like to alert you to the fact that an important volume of your poorhouse records are currently up for bid on eBay -- where they may be lost forever to the public record unless someone cares enough to rescue them! We sincerely hope that someone knows who to contact to see if some archive will bid to obtain that book. The auction is at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3615324147&category=4104 I have no involvement with that sale. Instead, I host a website which is called The POORHOUSE STORY (a clearinghouse for information about 19th century American poorhouses) at http://www.poorhousestory.com To see the information which we currently have about your county, you may go to http://www.poorhousestory.com/OSWEGO.htm Best Wishes, Linda Crannell (aka=The Poorhouse Lady)

    3. I agree- I'm not Mormon either, but have always found the people there very friendly and helpful. Luckily for us, our FHL is open Tuesdays through Fridays (I think it is), so we're able to go there as often as we need. Incidentally, isn't it interesting how many of us on this list are from Oregon? I think I've counted four or five so far. Especially since most other genealogy lists for places in the East don't really have that many Oregonians on them. :-) Shyanne near Corvallis, OR >Thanks to Russ for an excellent description of how to find a film from the >FHC. 2. Laura Perkins
    3. Good Evening, There are new updates online including several biographies from Mexico, New Haven and Richland, with a lot of names listed in them, along with an early history on Sandy Creek with many of the early settlers listed. I will try to have that finished tonight or tomorrow. Those who have sent submissions, please continue to have patience with me as I will continue working on getting them all online. Regards, Laura Oswego Co. NYGenweb Coordinator http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyoswego/ <http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Enyoswego/>

    3. I agree completely. I am not a Mormon, yet I have always felt welcome and accepted at my local FHC in the small town where I live. It has been difficult to find a "good" time, however due to their scheduling and my own. They were originally open from 10 AM to 4 PM on Tues, Wed, and Thurs. I was able to go on Thursdays and spent every Thursday afternoon among people whose interests were closer to my own than any of my normal "church" friends. However, I must admit that I have been disappointed for the past year when the new "director" decided they would no longer be there on Thursdays and so I've been unable to return as my Tuesdays and Wednesdays are already scheduled and must take precedence over any other days. It is my hope that eventually, they will decide to open again on Thursdays - I have ordered a lot of films that are there waiting for me to view.
