    1. INDEXING PROJECT for CNYGS County Packets
    2. Jim Hartigan
    3. Dear Listers: Wanted to bring to your attention that the Central New York Genealogical Society has about 47 more county packets that require various amounts of volunteer work from data entry, preproofing and final proofing prior to being placed on our website as a searchable index at no cost. Yes we are looking for volunteers who would like to know more about this. So far we have two counties complete with indexes on line and searchable. To see how they work go to: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nycnygs scrool down to NEW! and click on either county and do a search. I would like to hear you comments or questions. A county packet is a compilation of over 41 years of pre-1860 abstracted data, taken from our Genealogical Periodical, "TREE TALKS". Thank you, Jim Hartigan

    2. I'm sorry, I thought it was obvious, apparently not. The VANT mailing list, as Sam said, is a mailing list for people interested in the surname VANT. 3. If you are looking for more information on the VANT family, you might want to check out a document that I transcribed (if you haven't already). http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyoswego/towns/volney/mechurch.htm I believe that there are several VANTs mentioned in this document (dating from 1970). I grew up in Mount Pleasant, and my great-grandfather worked on the Frederick VANT farm in Volney (source: 1880 census database at www.familysearch.org) Hope this helps! 3. Thanks! I tried to search for local papers that might still have the obituary online, but I did not find this paper. The obituary confirms that I am searching the correct people here. I will have to call my Grandmother today and let her know, this would have been her cousin. Thanks so much! 3. I am sure that Barbara Dix is a very important person to the genealogy community in Oswego County and needs to be retained in her position. I am sure that every one on this list has gotten that message and and every one who can is suporting her and doing what they can to retain her. Now can we stop overloading the list with messages about her status and get back to genealogy.
