Just happened across this site today. Quite extraordinary. To be involved in the American Revolution and live to 1840 is something. Lots of good info here. http://www.usgennet.org/usa/topic/colonial/census/1840/index.html Russ Sprague Kensington, Maryland
I recently added some unindexed images of church records from the Ogdensburg Methodist Church. These are pdf images and you will need the Adobe reader (free download) to view them. Once you click on a link to the image, you can expand the image size to 100% and higher for greater readability. I have many more to upload and generally get around to it on weekends. That pesky full time job keeps taking up time! I also recently added more Gouverneur Methodist church records which are fully indexed by surname. Just prior to that I added hundreds of new names to the Norfolk Methodist church records which are also fully indexed. All Methodist is just a coincidence. Always happy to hear about available records from any denomination. The Gouverneur, Methodist and other towns are transcriptions rather than images. As time permits (or if some volunteer offers) I will create an all name index to the Ogdensburg images. It's not rocket science and if anyone reading this has been thinking about learning some basic html, I can get you started and you can create indexes for uploading. A very big thanks to Barb Littlebrandt (Gouverneur) who has copied records to paper and now to pdf images. Also to Dave Payne (lives in Washington state) who transcribed so many records from paper to excel sheets so quickly that I am weeks behind him in getting records uploaded (Norfolk). To view these records, visit the county page at www.usgenweb.org. Click 'new york' then 'select a county' then pick St. Lawrence county. There are many more Ogdensburg and Gouverneur records I still need to upload. The other churches listed are complete. Russ Sprague Kensington, Maryland

We are presently looking for information as to the parents of Amasa Daniel White, or additional information on him. According to a journal which was kept by my grandfather, George Leon DeBourney WHITE, Sr., his grandfather, Amasa Daniel WHITE, was born in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts, in December, 1787, however the information on the headstone of Amasa WHITE, Sr. in Woodlawn cemetery at Sandy Creek indicates that he was born in 1785. Amasa Daniel WHITE, married Martha (Polly) TYLER, who was born ca. 1803, in Massachusetts, the daughter of John TYLER and-?-. We are unsure of the age of Polly TYLER. People of this family are found in Sandy Creek, Oswego County, New York census records for 1840, 1845, 1850, 1855, 1860, 1865, 1870, 1880 & 1892 state census. Some are found in the 1851 Military Census of Sandy Creek. Daniel WHITE, was born ca. 1822, NY; Jane WHITE, was born ca. 1820-1825, NY; Dennis WHITE was born ca. 1826, NY; John WHITE, was born ca. 1828, NY; Mary WHITE, was born ca. 1830-1835, NY; Amasa WHITE, Jr., Sep 9, 1838, Sandy Creek, Oswego, NY. After Amasa Daniel WHITE died, his widow, Martha Polly WHITE, married (2) James B. BRIGGS, ca. 1841, and had one boy, Orson M. BRIGGS, born ca. 1843, in Sandy Creek. James B. BRIGGS was born ca. 1785, in Vermont. The Sandy Creek News for February 6, 1930, says that James B. BRIGGS was the grandfather of John TUTTLE. It has been several years since I have inquired about this line. If anything looks familiar, drop me a note. John@Sissom.org John D. Sissom johnsissom@sbcglobal.net sola fida
Because of all of the chat about the site and how to print etc., I decided to go check it out. My family was in Oswego in the early 1800s and most were gone by 1840s, so I did not expect to find anything. Well, what a pleasant surprise! I found pictures of my 3 gr. aunt, Cynthia S. Maxham, her husband and their home in Sandy Creek. There was also a short biography of her husband, William Bishop, and names of their children etc. I don't have a picture of my 3 gr. grandfather so having a picture of his sister is very special. There were also many obituaries of their descendants. Thanks so much for the tips. Sheila

I'm glad this topic came up. When you print, I guess it goes to your actual printer? I usually do the snapshot thing then open a new blank Word doc and then 'paste' into the Word doc. You can paste multiple articles into a word doc and then email them to others if you want. Just wondered if anyone else has done that or has other tips and techniques to share. Your cursor turns into crosshairs. Position the crosshairs at one corner of the article you wish to print. When you release the mouse button you will get a message saying that the selected area has been copied to the clipboard. If you make a mistake, just start over with the Snapshot tool. Russ, I tried your suggestion -- with a twist. I tried pasting in a photo editing software so I could save the clip as a jpg file, but I found there was too much of a loss of quality. Believe it or not, I've had better luck printing it out as I described below, then scanning the printout!! RE: www.fultonhistory.com; http://news.nnyln.net/; even this one helps with leads: http://fmlib-server.oswego.edu:591/web-news/searchnews.html Russ: I do as you do with Highlight; Copy; Save As; Paste; or "Print". That way I can re-size the font, or print several articles on one page. Also, that way I can clean-up what I've copied, or again edit the portions of the article I want. Of course, a large majority of my research is for several generations of relatives in Oswego County and I'm getting a wealth of information from the newspapers to "fluff out" my bare-bones of facts. As always, thanks for your input. You certainly offer plenty of help for everyone. The same way you just sent this question *but* change the subject line. The subject line should include the surname of who you are researching and, if you know them, the dates of birth and death. Example 'John Jones, 1879 - 1958'. Give as much information as you can in a query so that someone else might be able to pick up where you left off. In NY state, it's important to note the town someone lived in or at least the county. Relevant birth, death and marriage dates are also quite important.
