I CANT ANSWER YOUR QUESTION ABOUT WHAT TO ASK, IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE GENEALOGY BEFORE, JUST DIVE IN AND OTHERS WILL HELP. IT IS NOT A MATTER OF BOOKS USUALLY, THEY HAVE RECORD FOLDERS IN THE LIBRARY OF THE FAMILIES. YOU GENERALLY NEED NAME HUSB, WIFE DOB BOTH, DATE MARRIED, CHILDRENS NAMES IF AVAILABLE, PLACE OF BIRTH AND DEATH. HAVE YOU SEEN FTC DISC, I MAY HAVE THE LETTERS WRONG, BUT IT HELPS YOU TO PUT FAMILY INFO IN ORDER AND TELLS YOU WHAT QUESTIONS TO ASK, D FAMILY TREE SOMETHING, I CANT EASILY GET AT MY RECORDS. IF THAT DOESN'T GET YOU STARTED LET ME KNOW. THERE ARE FORUMS LISTED BY SURNAME (LAST NAME) THAT YOU CAN GET ON AND ASK GENERAL QUESTIONS SUCH AS ROOTS WEB. ----- Original Message ----- From: Linda Babcock<mailto:kittykatkorral@hotmail.com> To: NYOSWEGO-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:NYOSWEGO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 30, 2006 11:40 AM Subject: Re: [NYOSWEGO] Researching the names Lester, Tanner, Charles Bennett, Steinburgh HI David...I am out in Colorado. This is a bit out of line for upstate NY but what a nice resource this is and many of us have ancestors who moved west. I just happened to find this while researching other stuff. This is easily searchable by surname of groom or bride. Click 'view record' and each seems to be well documented. http://abish.byui.edu/specialCollections/fhc/gbsearch.htm Russ Sprague Kensington, Maryland

Thomas was born 1866 in Ontario to William E. and Elizabeth (Unknown)Tanner. William was born about 1833 in Ireland. Elizabeth was born abt 1844 in Ontario. Thomas' siblings were Hannah, Elmira, and Emma. Thomas married into the Kaine branch of my family, and I dont have a lot on his ancestors. I do know William/Elizabeth and kids lived in Williamstown in 1875 per the NY census that year. Thomas married Jennie Kaine in 1891 in Orwell. Jennie Kaine is my ggrandfather's sister. It doesn't look like they are directly related to me. Let me know if you think they might be. Margie +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Hi Margie, I have some Williamstown Tanners as well. Benjamin Tanner (b. 25 Jul 1812 in Williamstown / d. 12 Jun 1866) married Mary Porter (b. 24 Mar 1815 in Vermont / d. 6 Jun 1885) in about 1834. I believe, but haven't proved yet, that Benjamin's parents were Abel Tanner and Lois Judd. Abel is buried in Williamstown, but I haven't been able to find Lois' grave.
