I am planning a trip to Orleans County the last week in April. Can someone advise me on how to figure out where my ancestors lived in various towns just by looking at the census or do I need to go to the Town Clerk of each town and check something there? I have no idea where to begin. I will be researching the Capwills/Capwells and the Canfields. Thank You, Maureen Sausen

Hi Maureen. I have to ask you... Is there a Betsey CANFIELD in your line? In my notes I have an ancestral aunt, Sarah Elizabeth VanBUREN, who married a Canfield W. COLE from that area about 25 Dec 1859. His parents were Timothy COLE and Betsey CANFIELD. I am not related to the CANFIELD name, so I do not have any further info on Betsey. If you are related, it would really help me to know where this family was about 1840ish. I have a Civil War pension reference, 1850 and 1860 census records. Thanks.
