To find a census one usually needs an approximate birthyear, a birthplace (Country/State) at least. There might be more than 1 John Witherell. We can work backwards; what was your grandfather's name, birthyear and birthplace? Where did he die (that is if he did) and when. David Bullard moved to Gaines from Vermont abt 1814, Brigadier, William, and Judith came abt. 1812. Judith Bullard married John Witherell, born abt 1785 Richmond, Ontario, David was born 1813 and Darius 1816 in Richmond. The Bullards were early settlers to Orleans county. Judith or Juda Bullard Witherell at some point moved to Ontario county. Darius married Jeannett or Jennett Wetherell she a son Raymond ( 2 great grandfather) who was born in Michigan 1838, Darius married Jennette V (Wetherel or Howland or Viele) in ?? Raymond shows up in New York at the age of 12 in Butler, Wayne, New York.with Darius and Jennette Witherell and Raymond spells his name Wetheral.
