The Western New York Genealogical Society would like to invite you to join us for our upcoming free program on Saturday, November 16th in Buffalo, New York. * Using DNA to Explore Your Ancestry with Dr. Blaine Bettinger* Saturday, November 16, 2013 10:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Open to the Public. Free to Attend. No registration required. Event Location: Mason O. Damon Auditorium Buffalo & Erie County Public Library - Central Branch 1 Lafayette Square, Buffalo, NY 14203 With the growing popularity of genetic genealogy testing services such as 23andMe, AncestryDNA, and Family Tree DNA comes an increasing number of questions for researchers. Join us as nationally recognized scientist, lawyer, and blogger Dr. Blaine T. Bettinger, Ph.D., J.D. discusses the use of the DNA technology in genealogy. In his talk, Dr. Bettinger will explain autosomal DNA testing, the newest type of testing used to explore ancestry. Rather than simply testing one line like Y-DNA or mtDNA tests, autosomal tests provide a more complete picture of an individual’s ancestors. Autosomal DNA testing can be used to find long-lost genetic cousins, reveal ethnic roots, and even explore a person’s health. Together, we’ll examine the science of autosomal DNA and how best to use this new tool in genealogy research. ____________________________________ An avid genealogist, Blaine T.
